Civilisation has overtaken natural evolution in respect to mankind. We no longer adapt ourselves to the environment because we adapt the environment to ourselves... Mankind either breeds quality and fitness into the race(eugenics), or, as is the case under Western Equalism and liberalism, we breed inferiority and sickness into the race(dysgenics). Man's evolution, be it active or passive, displaces natural evolution.
Also, considering that time is likely to be an illusion then this would suggest that no evolution is random and all is destined to be. Goethe's form-fulfillment is a more sound and logical understanding of life-progression than Darwin's evolution which through it's minutiae of detail fails to see the wood for the trees.

The way that Civilizations and several societies are deteriorating in civility, morally,mentally, socially, politically, and health wise given the world wide epidemic proportions of obesity in both the young and those under 40, I'd have to vote for Devolution.
