With all the distention and fighting that has gone on in the Political threads I´m just curious... has it accomplished anything? Has anyone actually changed any of their views based on what has been posted in the threads has anyone learned anything they didn´t know before...or has it just been a place to release our frustrations and bash on each other?

Yeah I've learned something alright to stay toatally away from the political threads. I also don't see/understand what some of the back and forth distention and fighting accomplishes but I guess to each their own.
Sometimes I wonder if people really listen to one anothers opinions anymore. Maybe if people really did listen to one another for once in our lives they may just find out they have alot in common.
I don't see what goes on in politcial threads from all the back and forth bickering I've wittnessed in the campaign between Obama and McCain.
What from I've seen we are very much so a divided country in many shapes and form.
I remember reading a quote somewhere that read... "We don't have to worry about another coming over and destroying our country(U.S) because we're doing a pretty find good job on our own."
From some of the things I've seen here on and off this site I can see that happening slowly but surely bit by bit.

Not likely! Everybody's preaching to their Own Choir.

We're all middle aged for the most part and we come with a set of core values. To think that some pixels on a screen will change that is a tall order for anyone.

JMO (humbly at that)
I have indeed sworn them off. I get annoyed too easily methinks.
Indyfella: A person convinced against their will is never convinced. However, if I see 1 more post "Obama 08" that could change my mind.
Another one of the Dude's threads on the Eve before Election Day will do the Trick. It will make you grasp the TRUTH,you'll see. The Scales will drop off your Eyes!
What is interesting is to see how people on here view America (and the world) and that interaction.
Also interesting to hypothisize how people come up with the political view's they own. That's what I find more interesting than anything, Moreso, than the stupid political threads which really achieve nothing other than a good place to waste time.

You and me both... I found myself becoming someone I didn´t like and getting way to caught up in the nastiness... so I got out. Seeing the results of the poll so far I wonder why anyone stayed in them... it doesn´t seem anyone got any benefit from them, yet they caused a lot of bad feelings.

There should not be fighting going on in political threads. The purpose of the threads, should be to inform others.
The average voter's shocking ignorance about the main issues of the day, the names of their local candidates for office, or the policies the candidates support, is reason enough to do our best to inform them, so they may be able to make an informed decision rather than a vote cast in ignorance.
The flakiest voters -- the ones least motivated to show up at the polls year in and year out -- also tend to be most poorly informed. Well-informed voters have a better picture of the candidate or party most likely to promote the general welfare. Voters with an improved average level of political knowledge and policy know-how should be hard at work, educating those who are poorly informed.
Hopefully, in doing this, the poorly informed voters will learn and be able to make an informed decision.
This is my purpose for posting in Political threads. I would hope that my input would help others to become informed. I have received many emails of "thanks", from others who tell me that the information has helped them greatly.
Yes, I would say that it does make a difference and is worth while to continue posting political threads.
We have those who are immature who can not stand for anyone not to see things "their way", who can tend to cause discord by arguing and fighting. I can only suggest that they try to "play nice". At times I believe that their intent is to cause discord, to prevent others from reading the thread and giving an opinion, to keep people out of the political threads. Why should we allow them to win? We should not!! We should ignore them and their argumentive comments, by not responding to them. It is to a mans honor to overlook an offense!! Do not be pulled in by their attempts at personal attack. Be a better person than they are and do not stoop to their level.

As in real life, there are people here I happen to like and respect a great deal that don't necessarily share my political views. As I see it, better to just let that aspect be.

My parents and brother are staunch republicans... my sisters and I while more libertarian then anything else lean towards democratic when faced with a two party system... obviously we don´t discuss politics in my family.... but it doesn´t stop me loving them!
Aside from the bashing of each others opinions, I've learned from Obama supporters unknowns about McCain, and from McCain supporters unknown facts about Obama..... Suffice to say, I feel confident in saying neither has what it will take to be the right person for the job at ths particular time in our country's growing unstability. these threads have solidified my thoughts of not voting for a President at all.
let the Electoral College handle it... it usually does anyway.

I feel the same way. Also, I will not vote for either of these two clowns. I will only vote for my local and state officials.

Well, same thing here, they still won't let the Federal Council be elected by Popular Vote. They believe we're too stupid. Yet we're smart enough to elect the Idiots that eventually elect the Council every Four Years!
No still have not changed, but more convinced then ever that Obamaman is the man. I don't like taxes as much as the next person, but I also don't like to see homeless people which has been happening because someone wants to get richer all the time.
shipoker58: it was mostly the debates that changed my views. The threads had nothing to do with it. The endorsement of of Colin Powell cinched it
Well for me..and if I was American and could vote...I was neutral in the beginning...the smear campaign and sheer lack of concentration on the issues are what changed my mind to make me decide McCain would not make a good president....I don't see anything positive in that man or anything he does to say he would make a good president....but I do see positiveness and the traits in Obama and his policies that I think will at least take America in a good direction...he isn't perfect...but I think he's the best out of the two!!!!
