Just try and imagine ALL the endless and costly elections…who would pay for it all in every country, parish, town and state across your country…elections may just end up a 24/ 7 carnival when you actually think of the numbers of police which would also include all troopers, sheriffs etc., etc.
Actually, it might be good; it could literally leave the entire country paralyzed without any police to do their jobs as they would all be out trying to be elected…it would be heaven for all criminals with no one on duty to stop robberies, riots, rapes, bombings, etc.
When the civil rights marched back in the 60’s and 70’s, a common joke from the MLK days was, ‘Let us bow our heads in prayer, while riots and bloodshed fill the air!’…(Aren’t those days with at sentiment, back in Missouri, over the “besmirching” of the character that was a wanted thief for robbery and then shot dead, allegedly with his hands held up….when are people ever going to learn that certain people can do no wrong... confused laugh

While we're at it, let's have elections for barbers, doctors, dentists, nurses, janitors and anyone else who might work in any corrections system.... roll eyes

we already elect the sheriffs, county commissioners, council people

the police are supposed to be peace keepers, to protect and serve
not third world thugs, but that's what federalization does to local
depts, they take marching orders from the fed instead of local chief /city council

You mean like sheriffs but with a separate vote for each deputy? In some places that means thousands of votes would be needed. Extend that to the police and it becomes tens of thousands. Informed voters would need access to all of their individual resumes. Do you actually mean wait until after they finish the academy (because many don't pass that)? That would save some voting and resume reading time, but there would still be hundreds of thousands who had passed to be voted on. And more a few weeks later when those who failed to win were replaced by new candidates.

Hmm, many voters would still have some free time left at the end of the year. We can fix that by requiring re-affirmation votes annually.
