how important are first impressions? (9)
i have had weird encounters in the past and feel when u first meet some one they are on their best behavior.after that it is all what u can make of it. curious for feedback

Not necessarily -- But first impression is very important so make sure you shine you shoes --brush you teeth--comb you hair--and their are no food stains on you clothes --would be good if you passed an iron on it too. This goes even for your first date.

first dates are normally a lie, anyway. People don't present themselves realistically. You really get to know them after several dates. maybe not even then. My ex-wife was married to me for 16 years and never really knew me. (wife #2)

My response wasn't available, so I'll post....
I don't consider first impressions all that important. I have met people who I didn't like on first impression...then I got to see behind the mask to the wonderful people they hid to protect themselves from pain. I have also met (and married) people who gave wonderful first impressions, sometimes for months or longer...and regretted that I ever met them when I got to know who they really were.
I know the old saying goes that you never get another chance to make a first impression...but with me, you do.

would you call me cynical then if i say that when u meet someone they are on their best behaviour and from there you really get to 'know' them?

Me too.
What does shallow mean?
Does it mean that a person who thinks that first impressions are important that they are a little, well, not thinking deeply enough?
I am a deep thinker, I can often come out with statements that are misunderstood.
I had a probably nice guy mail me, telling me I ought to know better about respect, and my narrow mind.
I have never interacted with him, ever, it was out of the blue.
Maybe he reads the forums, these ones, I do not respect many people here, I do not know them, but there are a few I do...
And I have no problem in telling them that.
So, alot of people see me as shallow and disrespectful,
I give where it is deserved, not to people who post here everyday, sometimes I do and I am sure that many people do not care, it is unlikely I will meet with them.
It takes one line to impress me, just one line and therefore I attach importance to it and it is a first impression.
But one line can unimpress me in a moment.
So does that make me shallow?
No idea, but I would, like an explanation to your option.
