MacAfee, Norton, or whatever security you have will take over you firewall settings, but that's ok. Windows will continue to update security measures in other areas of your computer, but your main security service has control of frontline defense.
fugitive432: I was just being silly. My poll is the one just before this one, and now it's second in line.
Use to be you couldn't uninstall Norton without wrecking your system.
computer often sold with third rate anti virus programs, some companies like Toshiba thankfully only offer the programs without having pre-installed them.
I don't let Bill Gates crap protect run fire wall, or security services other than some time i turn windows update on. Running Kaspersky Internet Security Service, backed up by Spybot and SuperAntiSpyware program also rum MailWasher Pro which lets you read first few lines of incoming email without opening the mail, runs a secure browser and sorts email quickly.

Can you get a virus just opening mail? I thought that was just windows email preview.
Yes you can, though most server now scan all email, yester-year they never did, i prefer to vet any mail coming into my computer, even if all mail is scanned by kaspersky prefer to delete crap unopened off the server than allow unwanted junk into computer

Windows 8 and 8.1 have a built in antivirus provided by microsoft. If you uninstall mcafee you are still protected at a base level. If you install another AV, windows will continue to update just fine.
