People generally only see things from their own perspective.

i don't really think it's about 'good' or 'bad' being assigned. i think of it more as folks change, and nothing is permanent.
as well...i'm one of those folks that believe, 'if it's on your path, then it is your path".
and i know some folks hate when i say this...

I can only speak for myself. We slowly grew apart over a period of 6 years and it was primarily due to work.
I still get along very well with my ex husband. We did not have one of those ugly divorces with fights and nastiness. We still respect and care for each other because we spent many years together and have a child in common.
When I was "on the market", I listened very carefully to the stories why the guys were divorced or broken-up and the outcome usually made up my mind whether or not I wanted to get to know them.
