uptall: I was nearly run over more times than I can remember first time I was in holland.. Them cycle tracks take some getting used to
They are for cyclists only and no pedestrians should even be on them.
Last time I sat on a bike I couldn't sit for 3 days afterwards. I'm thinking of getting one for the summer if I'm moving, it would be a good way of getting to know the area - it's just dangerous here though.

Yeah, I know that now
I think in was a case of don't smoke and walk in a country full of bicycles
But you can't sit in the coffee shop all day, can ya
KN I sold one a couple of years ago and intended replacing it. I too hope to buy one this year and I'm quite lucky where I live. We have a fantastic cycle path network.

We have the old Railway tracks converted for cycling, walking and horse riding....

They had nice walking/cycling around the lake where I lived before, but I haven't seen anything like this around here (lots of opportunities for walking though). If you have the opportunity to do some nice tours, it's a great way of getting out and about.

I love cycling and average about 100 miles a week, both off and on road.
When on the roads, I follow the rules as if I was in my car, and when off road, I always give way to ramblers or people walking along the path. It doesn't inconvenience me at all, and should I meet them as I'm on my way back, they tend to allow me to ride through.

RainComeShine: Cycling is a wonderful sport but in the public domain I think it should be exercised with respect and safety.
Hi Rain
I agree, and think that I am a respectful cyclist.
This area is a mixed bag when it comes to facilities though, there are few bicycle lanes on roads and there are usually cars parked on them so fairly pointless.
Cycling on footpaths is illegal, but people do, while the shared cycle path sees an assortment of people wandering along with ipods, dogs and kids skittering all over, alternating with packs of mamils flying through with little regard for anyone in their way.
I consider it a challenge lol, but would love to see improvements made and more respect shown by all path and road users
