Cycling is a wonderful sport but in the public domain I think it should be exercised with respect and safety.

Some countries are more accommodating and saver for cyclists - Holland is great in that regard.

Separate cycling and walking lanes and with the higher number of cyclists, I think they are checked more in regards as rules on the road.

It's simply dangerous to cycle not only on backroads in Ireland. uh oh

They are for cyclists only and no pedestrians should even be on them. laugh

Last time I sat on a bike I couldn't sit for 3 days afterwards. I'm thinking of getting one for the summer if I'm moving, it would be a good way of getting to know the area - it's just dangerous here though. uh oh

KN I sold one a couple of years ago and intended replacing it. I too hope to buy one this year and I'm quite lucky where I live. We have a fantastic cycle path network.

They had nice walking/cycling around the lake where I lived before, but I haven't seen anything like this around here (lots of opportunities for walking though). If you have the opportunity to do some nice tours, it's a great way of getting out and about. conversing

Same around Aachen, it's a hilly area so the railway tracks were going fairly even. Cycling and rollerblading, no horse riding allowed blues

How many run ins between horses and bikes? laugh

My brother loves biking and he cycled all the way down to Luxembourg (from Aachen) and back and around Lake Constance with his son.

Holland is an ideal country for cycling as it is flat - and you can treat any muscle cramps in a coffee shop. laugh

I love cycling and average about 100 miles a week, both off and on road.

When on the roads, I follow the rules as if I was in my car, and when off road, I always give way to ramblers or people walking along the path.
It doesn't inconvenience me at all, and should I meet them as I'm on my way back, they tend to allow me to ride through.

Hi Rain wave

I agree, and think that I am a respectful cyclist.

This area is a mixed bag when it comes to facilities though, there are few bicycle lanes on roads and there are usually cars parked on them so fairly pointless.

Cycling on footpaths is illegal, but people do, while the shared cycle path sees an assortment of people wandering along with ipods, dogs and kids skittering all over, alternating with packs of mamils flying through with little regard for anyone in their way.

I consider it a challenge lol, but would love to see improvements made and more respect shown by all path and road users

I had a fairly big pony for 21 years, so even now I'm not gone on the big warmbloods, I still prefer a pony with some going in them.

Riding are 2 wonderful hobbies. wink
