Ok here is what I propose , a standard 50 book challenge , for those of you that don’t know a 50 book challenge is a common enough thing, the basics are you set your self a goal of reading 50 books in a year (if you think 50 is way too high for you ,you can always set a lower number for your self) We could start on Monday , you keep a list of what you have read and post it every time you add a book (I will start a thread for it on Monday) with a few words about what you thought about your latest read (no spoilers )
I am not sure if there will be many people interested in this

Everytime I see my grandaughter I get the privilege of reading her 2 books. I can probably knock this out in 1/2 a year. (actually, I've got a few of them memorized).

Well indy you could always make it 100 book challenge
(I actually know some one that could knock 50 proper novels out in 50 days with ease )

Sounds a very good idea........ but I'd have to set my sights a lot lower - maybe between 3 and 10 books maximum.
I'll be very interested to see what other people post though (about the books they've started reading/just finished reading).

To be fair...they should be above preschool level......
Just read "I am Hutteriite," about a young girl growing up in the eponymous family/society. Interesting details, boring story (in a nutshell).
Now reading "The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time," featuring a young autistic lad attempting to solve the odd murder of a neighbor's poodle.

I wish I could...I have a hard time concentrating on what I am reading and have to go back and re-read the page. It takes me forever to read a book. I have been reading 1000 page tomes lately, so I could never do 50 in one year.
Even though I voted "yes" I think I'll pass. I could never be satisfied reading only 50 books in the course of a year. During the time I kept track of such things I read between 150 and 200 books a year for more than 5 years. Being older and "busier" I no longer keep lists and my reading has diminished to a fairly moderate average of about 75-100 books/year.
A fairly well known author and "self-educated" man - who shall remain nameless - left school at the age of 15, yet was a proponent of education. In later years when speaking at various schools, when asked about it he would say "Dropping out of highschool is perfectly acceptable... Provided you have spent a minimum of three years reading between 100-150 books a year for the fun of it!"
Great challenge and I hope there are quite a few who take you up on it!
I'm in! I'm already well over 50 a year. I'm usually doing 3 at a time, books that is. Right now its "The Magic of Thinking Big", Success University", and the Collected Sherlock Holmes, by AC Doyle.
Magic is about changing your life by changing your thoughts, actions, & associations.
SU is a collection of some of the 60 greatest works on being sisccessful in all areas of your life: family, relationships, spiritual, work/business, and finances. Each 'semester' has 4-5 writings from the likes of Napolian Hill, Dale Carnige, Robert Schuller, Og Mandino, Doug DeVos and many others.
Sherlok stores are about 52 very short pieces Doyle wrote to keep eating while his medical practice was going down the tubes. Most Americans realte to BAsil Rathbone B&W serials on TV as the definitive Holmes. I see him when I read these.
Next week will be 3-4 Terry Goodkind novels (Seeker of Truth)
Next Month wil be Prosumer Power vol 2 and one other classic from our firm's recommended list.

No one is saying you can only read 50 a year... I would never cut back either, I love it way to much but it´s nice to have a place to share some info on books, and get others views on books you might want to read, or books you never heard of.
I love a recommendation... especially for books off the beaten track.
I am an avid reader, and would love to join in, but these days more of my reading is focused around text books, and I don't think you want my reviews on those. I don't have much time for pleasure reading.
Indyfella: She doesn't know what pre-school is. It sounds intellectual to here at 2 1/2. However, she does know her ABC's.
I remember those days..my kids fav books always had the frayed pages and they could tell me the words before I even read them.....from sheer repetition....

She's sly, she knows the last word on every page. So if I try to skip a page...she lets me know.
Kansan dude you crack me up! Never thought DR Suess was so deep, kind of like the Simpsons Though I suppose any literature could be viewed from many perspecitves.
This is going to be fun! I'm self-employed and while quite busy (productive) I do make time to read and feed the brain. I am expanding into EU & Asia in 09 so I may not be able to keep up the 3/month but I'll keep y'all posted on at least 2.
b.t.w. the only ones allowed to pee on my trainers are MY dogs.
