I was going to mention something about it, during the discussions about Marilyn Monroe. Here's my chance... I've never been a fan of Marilyn Monroe. I guess that I was about 10 or 11 years old, before I recognized the face with the name and questioned: Why is this woman acting like a giddy school girl and seemingly cutesy most of the time ? I thought, "I don't know any adult that behaves like this". And the voice to me, seemed out-of-place, but for the fame of Marilyn, seems that her voice accounted for at least 60% of her success.

DertyHarry44: yes, specially with people that works on the radio
no face, just a voice, then we make an image of those persons
Same can be said to a lesser degree about actors having accents. Sean Connery, for example. One doesn't need to be watching the screen to know it's him, they just need to hear his voice. Then there's the Duke, W.C Fields and even Sam Elliott, to name a few more. All having unique voices, but that still doesn't make the person. That's more about distictive recognition.

my experience was this, I used to listen to this guy on the radio a young voice indeed, one day at doctor's office this guy came and his voice was familiar not only to me, guess what he was in his 60s but sounded like a guy in his 20 or 30s curious indeed
There are two female singers who I've heard on singing together on a song and couldn't tell them apart until I heard them sing in person. Then after awhile I knew who it was when I would hear the same song.
