'Tis better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all
'Tis better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all. Prov. Love is such an important experience that even the pain of losing someone you love is better than not having loved that person. (A line from Alfred Lord Tennyson's poem, "In Memoriam A. H. H.") Tom: I've been so miserable since Nancy and I broke up. I wish I'd never met her. Fred: Come on, now—'tis better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all.

Toger1234: Is it better to met someone fall in love and have it fall apart eventually or to have never to met them to begin with?
I would say yes. I didn't relish the ending, or expect it, but it gave me more confidence and a learning curve the next time will be real and I won't break it for the same pointless reasons!

RainComeShine: Heart breaks are never good and you can never learn anything by them. The missing never ends! I find it's best to pick yourself up and not look back. I'm a maybe!

I don't think anyone falls in love expecting it to fall apart but to avoid love altogether in fear of the worst isn't such a good thing imo. In spite of the hardships experienced through breakups, I try my best to focus on the good that came out of the relationships and the lessons learned to take forward into any potential future relationships.

I have had the type of love (that most people never find) he died in April.. And if I never find it again, at least I have precious memories..so YES.. Better to have loved and lost

Obviously many on here will have indeed "loved and lost" for various different reasons. Love is probably the most powerful emotion we can experience, and when its true love it can be intoxicatingly powerful and beautiful. So in my view those who have experienced this would probably believe that its better to have had it than to not have had it...
Anyone who sadly goes all through life without ever experiencing the said love will have missed out I.M.O..
Tiz better to have loved and lost.....I thinketh..

That is true but i also think sometimes you can put a lot time and effort into something and then it falls apart you can feel a bit stupid,

Shouldn't really feel like effort, because once you are pushing something along it has pretty much lost its legs already and isn't going anywhere. Sometimes, maybe, best to accept that you've had everything that relationship can offer and should be backing off.
I know. SO much easier said than done. When something was good and still has potential, it seems worth trying but maybe only worth it when it was very, very good and even when that first whoosh has gone it is better than anything you had before. But then you both have to want it to work.

I totally agree you are very wise. Sometimes we find it hard to end why no its over for months but we go along anyway because there still might be a chance.
