When a guy is not only over 10 years younger, but looks 10 years younger than he really is, insists he is seriously keen on a woman he knows well in real life, and the woman is saying NO purely on the basis of what people will think of them as a couple ... is she right or wrong?

I worked with a guy who looked older than his age, and had a wife 17 years his junior. People constantly assumed she was his daughter, she thought it funny but it really curled him up.

her 2 songs hated me, I was making double the money she was

I guess if one of you is under age.
Some younger people come across as very mature and visa versa.

She's neither right, nor wrong.
It's simply her choice.
Whatever choice she makes, she has to live with the consequences.
I certainly have some empathy for not wanting to deal with being bombarded with age prejudice. When I was a mum of a five year old I looked about 13 years old. It's much more enjoyable being treated like a respectable young mum now, when I'm out with my granddaughter.
Having said that, other people's ignorance was never going to be a reason for giving up my greatest love, my daughter. Learning to ignore it, confront , laugh at it, whatever, was by far the most preferable option.
+/- 25% of your own age before it starts to look like there's something else going on. Which could be anything from his ludicrous wealth or legendary personality to her foreign accent or potentially abusive stepfather. The older one usually has a large compensating factor and the younger one a gross personal defect or economic disadvantage.

Sometimes it's only one of them and sometimes it is both.

life is sweet
Back in the 80s, though, she was probably late 30s, maybe mid 40s? Its an age where women look pretty ageless. Did you ever get comments / odd looks, did they bother you if you did?
I'd also say that how old you look, rather than how old you actually are, gets more important with age. If you're 50 and you look 40 then you're not far away from the maturity and life development of a 40 year old, but if you're 15 and you look 20 then you're still a kid.
hoolet: When u spend too much time worrying about it
Too glib, too glib. If it was only ever the two of them, and the outside world didn't matter, yes. But people love to judge, and mock, and make comments. Old guy, lovely young wife, phew, the jokes rocket around.
Cher and Joan Collins took some flak on their young men, and look how good they looked.

She looks her age, not in a bad way, but not going to fool anyone she's 10 - or 20! - years younger than she is. I don't think she'd want to. Part of the problem.

Can't say if she's right or wrong because it's her own sense of being judged by others that's messing with her head. Only she can choose based on what she's comfortable with.

She's judged in the past. (Must be money, couldn't be real attraction, etc etc.)

Elegsabiff: Come ON Stedan, you've have turned either one down in their later heyday?
When Cher was in her Hey Day...she was married to Bono....
When Joan was looking good was back in the day with Anthony....
Since then for both of them it has been the money that has kept the look not the natural development of aging...... prefer someone who can look nice without too much effort....the above two take away the cosmetics and you would not recognise any of them.

Elegsabiff: In my boss's case he was the funniest and most charming man I ever met, and had lots of money. She fell for the charm, the money probably didn't hurt.
Yes, rich bosses have that certain charm about them
Elegsabiff: There ya go. Older women jokes. Okay, Cher did serious renovations!
Let's do older Men's jokes, saggy prune bags etc.
To the question.

After just reading your last post on a Blog, " I'm trying to psych myself up for a liaison against my better judgement", You will go with gut instinct I'm sure.

Interesting, I thought they both looked their best in their forties and fifties. AND Dolly P, and for that matter Tina Turner. Stunning late bloomers, but yup, there's a pic of Goldie Hawn without makeup that's a bit scary. I'm up there age-wise myself, do like my 10p's worth of slap
