Yes. I currently have building works going on, my 2nd house is being finished on this property. My cottage is planned to be turned into a work shop for my arts and crafts, a financial loss for me if I can not do that, but I don't care.
If people in Ireland will be asked to take in refugees, I will make that call, same as I have done before while still living in Germany.
Am I scared? Yes I am, it is a natural fear of the unknown, plus I am an isolationist, it has a reason I live far away from everyone, but it is not all about the self.
My family, due this Christmas, would have a tight fit, as my cottage was also still to hold a guest room, but I know my lot would hail this and embrace a refugee family with love.
I know I am in a privileged position though with space.
Tiny there is no reason for any family to house "refugees"...there is more than enough empty office blocks that could easily be converted in to flat's, empty house around to house who ever...
So right, Phoenix, I see loads of empty space everywhere, but they don't plan for such things, do they? Not that they would not know well in advance.. and then you and I are called 'conspiracy theorists'...
They also did not care that most of us in the Western World opposed the Iraq war. I still remember the demonstrations in London, biggest ever, as far as I remember, in England's history, but it happened anyway, and David Kelly, such a convenient suicide.. they must have been serving the dearest champagne in their offices when they heard of it...
I would open my home, in lack of 'them' doing anything, if that's what it takes to help a family with no where else to find shelter.
On the morning of 17 July 2003, Kelly was working as usual at home in Oxfordshire. Media coverage of his public appearance two days before had led many of his friends to send him supportive emails, to which he was responding. One of the emails he sent that day was to New York Times journalist Judith Miller, who had used Kelly as a source in a book on bioterrorism and to whom Kelly had mentioned "many dark actors playing games." He also received an email from his superiors at the Ministry of Defence asking for more details of his contacts with journalists.
At about 15:00, Kelly told his wife that he was going for a walk as he did every day. He appears to have gone directly to an area of woodlands known as Harrowdown Hill about a mile away from his home where he ingested up to 29 tablets of painkillers, co-proxamol, an analgesic drug and to have then cut his left wrist with a knife he had owned since his youth. His wife reported him missing shortly after midnight that night, and he was found early the next morning. Questioned on a flight to Hong Kong that day, Blair denied that anyone had been authorised to leak Kelly's identity.
Rest in Peace, Mister Kelly, and thank you a thousandfold for your outstanding courage, we are still seeing the aftermath of those 'games', but at least your tried
there are jeals with plent of space ,and for shore for many of them its the best place ,if you see how they behave ,thats the best place where they will end

--- If you mean in 'how they behave' what is happening at the Hungarian border, I don't think that is a fair representation of most of those refugees, and even those there who have turned to violence, I'd say that's deep frustration and maybe even fear. You arrive full of hopes, then find yourself rejected.
Does not make it right, but I think to a degree relatable, although it does not help their case at all, only gets people to be even more resentful
btw, forgot to say kudos, Stan, for the donations. That is very kind of you
Stan..you mentioned something about giving whatever to the people in the camps at Calais. When was the last time you were there and have you ever spoken to the locals who have to live with the nightmare day in day out...?
Personally on my forays in to France often I deliberately go via Dover and stop of in Calais and watch in amazement what they (the locals) have to put up with and I chat to them...Try it some time..

There shouldn't be camps in Calais, why have Britain and France not done something to alleviate the situation.
It must be horrible for the locals to have to witness human suffering. Have you ascertained if the locals have access to resources to provide these poor migrants with warm food and shelter?
