* A widow is a woman whose spouse has died, while a widower is a man in that situation. The state of having lost one's spouse to death is termed widowhood. These terms are not applied to a person after he or she becomes divorced from their former spouse, though they may sometimes be used after the former spouse has died.
* A spinster is an unmarried woman who is past the usual age for marrying and is considered unlikely to marry. An 18-year-old single woman would not be considered a spinster in contemporary language, but a single, 40-year-old woman may be considered a spinster.
Darkbrownskins: Men if you're a single or a widower and will marry soon, which kind of woman you prefer? and why? or if you have any experince share pls.. thanks. :)
There are positives and negatives to all states that a person may be in, or find themselves being in.
Spinster (over 30) Positives? Single, maybe wanting a relationship, maybe self-sufficient Negatives? Maybe set in her ways, maybe selfish, maybe not able to relate and share?
Widow (over 30) Positives? Knows what is involved in a relationship, maybe just wants friendship, maybe self-sufficient, maybe family orientated Negatives? Maybe Kids (lots of them), maybe debts, maybe hurt and broken from the marriage?
I really think that "Divorced" should have been an option as well.
Divorced (over 30) Positives? Knows what she doesn't want in her next partner, maybe just want friendship, maybe has grown from the experience, maybe is settled Negatives? Maybe debts, maybe family pressures, maybe baggage from the divorce?
I understand that religion frowns on divorce, and I can understand that from a certain perspective, but it is unfair for the person abandoned by their partner to be denied another relationship through no fault of their own.
There is no definitive, to your poll.
It really depends if the person is stable, or a psycho, if they have a mental illness (thus never married) or still trying to cope with the grief and loss of their partner.
There are many reasons that one finds oneself in a certain situation. I think that for me my preference is for those women who try to better their attitude, and grow through their experience of life, who persevere and don't give up, who see the good things around them.
I think that those qualities are more important than if a person has never married, is divorced, or is a widow.
