Voyager, the X-15 way back in the late 1950's, your satellite TV, the ISS,...all of these are day to day examples of technology that exists and has gone beyond our atmosphere,....

A LOT of $$$$$$$$$$$$$$ to go to Mars.....it would and should (maybe) require a planetary effort and input,...but to what end? Sol is still a stable yellow dwarf star. And to date, we rely on chemical rockets for propulsion.....inefficient and EVER SO SLOW! Inner solar system travel is problematic in its distance and time factors with chemical propulsion,....interstellar travel? ROFLMAO! It will take a definite evolution of the human brain and science to achieve this!

I can't say as to what country will be the first but I can nominate the logical pick of astronauts . It should include G.W.Bush and OJ Simpson . That way Bush can continue his search for the " weapons of mass destruction " and OJ can look for the " real killer " .
