I have a scattered family, and there's a family birthday lunch noon Saturday, 8 hours drive away. hug

Plus I get to go out with a favourite buddy Saturday night. hug

But GETTING there. Friday night? My daughter swears she doesn't mind waiting up until 2 for my arrival. hug could be 3. Depending on traffic / weather. help

I like driving, but I don't love UK motorways or winter driving. help

I'd get up in the wee small hours and drive Saturday but I could get held up and even miss the lunch. And I have the 8 hour drive back Sunday. 16 hours driving in 48? help

I've provisionally booked a hotel off the M6 toll (expensive!) but I can still cancel. I can still cancel the whole trip. And spend the whole weekend on my own wishing I had gone. help

One minute I want to. hug The next MINUTE (yup) I don't. help My head is melting. Please decide for me. blues

Yes right now I am that pathetic. Thank you. sad flower

Hmmmmmmmmmm. You have a point. Several changes with a train and it is a bit last minute. And I HATE flying. But it would be a lot quicker .... hmmm ....

You agree the drive sounds pretty horrible, though. moping

Trouble is I ALWAYS want to stay in bed. And the family doesn't gather very often.

Why did living at the other end of the country seem a good idea? I'll probably remember at the lunch grin

It´s obvious you don´t want to do the drive so stay at home

Driving is the worst choice...take a plane, train or bus and leave the driving to someone else and you'll enjoy the trip and weekend all that much moredunno

I actually love driving. But not on crowded wet windy motorways with a gazillion trucks and ten miles of roadworks in every 100. (Oh, and one worker in that 10 miles, sitting well to one side having a nice brew). very mad

I'm having a panic attack on your behalf, as we speak sigh

I have to agree with the ladies above,

Let somebody else do the driving, be it pilot , train driver or bus driver.

Then you can nap, go on CS, read or throw snotballs at the passenger in front of you, and still arrive bright-eyed and bushy-tailed.

Instead of bushy eyed and bright tailed.

Bus or coach, NO, that really is the worst. Hold that thought. Checking flights and trains.

Or if the rest of you could come up with a good excuse, that would be good too. Hey, happy 80th. Catch you at the 90th, eh?

I really had hoped for blizzards so I couldn't go, no decision to make. Huh.

Back in a sec.

Lastminute.com senses my urgency and is being harsh on prices. Still looking.

There is a threat that Donald Trump is going to Scotland for the weekend to finish his golf course, and anybody with half a brain, and Scottish pride (even a SA) has to stay in Scotland and man the dunes, and thrown snotballs at him.

Your adoptive country's pride is at stake.

Scotland the Brave!

Never flicked a snotball in my life. Don't say I wouldn't want to, but what if someone else is reading this? And on the same transport? and gets me first? uh oh
