Catfoot: Does the leader of a country need any special training to rule a country or can anybody just walk into office and rule?
We have had PhDs from great Universities as presidents and they have not done any better than average persons.
Why?
Because a President is just one part of the whole equation and the people have to get involved in civic matters and make the changes (for better) that are needed.
Catfoot: Yes, I know he can appoint advisers who are competent, but will he accept advice if he cannot understand the reasoning behind it?

Huh, taking orders does require a modicum of intelligence right :) Has off shore accounts, is corrupt, insane or stupid or both :) Greedy, perverted, viciously possessive of his power..:) Will kill ya if necessary to keep it, even bomb entire countries into the stone age with depleted eu rainium. :) Politicians how ever just sell out and take orders from their owners. :) Simple.. Requires deluded, sleepy headed, delusional, ignorant believers to function.. all works just right. :) Right ? Oh, oh I see a flock of bulging suite cases flying my way. :O)
A true leader would have an education in humanities; their qualities would include compassion, an insight into the needs of the common man and the plight of those who are often disregarded, ie the poor and the mentally ill.
Politics is not about those people, it's about big business and wealth.
It astounds me that people are so passionate about who's gonna win the POTUS race, most people I know don't give a flying fark about politics as it has no bearing on life at grassroots level, regardless of who wears the crown.

A sane and powerful mind with the capacity to be educated. I wouldn't say he needs a qualification, however, he needs that broad general intelligence which would make him a reasonable jack of all trades and master of none. The experts are his advisors with niche specialities and the leader is the one to partially cover all bases.
And I'd prefer a jack of all trades leader because it's less corrupt. Most leaders selected from a certain profession have the tendency to over-represent the vested interests of that profession. Like when lawyers become judges and legislators they warp the law to makework for lawyers.

What great leaders are is awesome talent-spotters. But unlike a football team's head coach who's best prepared by at one time being a footballer the politician is not necessarily best prepared for by a career in politics. Professional politics and good governance are not necessarily, or even very often, the same thing. So how do you accredit that talent-spotting and man-managing ability which is the most important quality of a leader?
