When I did marry -I did it forever- never in my mind passed the possibility of getting apart yet after 24 years married I did not tolerate his cheating and that is why I did ask him for divorce.

We all hope for the dream, because, lets face it, we are all afraid of stds, and being a single parent. Also, choosing a life partner is not a piece of cake but quite a hair raising experience. We have to find the right person, wine and dine them, bear huge wedding costs. The alimony and support costs will come later, but we won't dwell on those for now.
So we all hope for the dream..but reality is real and quite different.

So many women, so little time...
When marriage was first invented, people lived short difficult lives. Few lived beyond the age of 40.
Therefore marriage would have been for 20-25 years max.
People live until 80 now, so maybe expecting marriage to last a lifetime now is idealistic rather than realistic.
