I asked a very similar question about a month ago and there was so many PC whiners came out of the woodwork that a brilliant thread ( the contributions of many others) was lost forever !
Some of the original whiners even changed their minds as the content developed ...

Hopefully I can help somebody by writing this...
In 2004 I was a world class athlete, with less than 1,000 miles to go, to make the longest solo canoe trip, and the plans and ability to skunk that record.
A car I was in flipped doing 70 mph, and threw me through the window, making me too disabled to paddle a canoe anymore in a matter of seconds.
My doctor had me on 150 dilaudids, 150 oxycodones, 90 valiums, and all the morphine and medical marijuana I wanted every month.
I only have a couple vertebrae that aren't damaged.
My x-rays qualify me for anything I want.
Most days I get out of bed, begin with 30 mgs.of oxycodone; but, I quit the dilaudids and morphine, and cut down on the oxycodones, and everything else.
After 13 years of being prescribed very strong opiates, I don't have a physical addiction to anything.
The reason why I can use pain pills without being addicted to them is...
I spend a lot of time in pain.
I never need to feel pain; but I know, if never feel pain, and I use all the drugs I get-- I'll just need more.
My tolerance would just go up.
I'd feel pain unless I got more drugs; and I'd have a habit with horrible complications on top of all my other problems.
I do drug fasts regularly.
I stay in bed, without using any pills for days at a time.
I practice yoga, pranayama, meditation, and living in my mind.
I don't get prescribed too much drugs; if I was physically active everyday, I could easily use twice as much drugs as the doctor gives me.
Because I fast regularly, and deal with as much pain as I can take: the worst side effects I ever get are restless leg syndrome, and diarrhea; and those only last a few days.
I'm thankful for the opiates I get, and the doctor who prescribes them. I need them to be active, to go shopping for food, and to do yard work, or clean my house; but if I used all the drugs I get prescribed for me, without spending days at a time in pain... I'd be a junkie.
Unfortunately, I didn't learn anything I just wrote, from a physician.

Your case is purely medical.
For those youngsters addicted to drugs,there is NO excuse,as have a choice,drugs or NO drugs.
