Was estranged from the father of my kids for slightly more than two years before I started dating again, with a Kiwi who called Malaysia home. I got to choose the venue and time. I opted for a coffee date ( Starbucks ) right in the middle of a very busy mall.
He, of course paid for two rounds of coffee and a chocolate cake.
He then walked me to my car, opened the door for me to get in and I drove away.
More than a year after that, my Art came to visit me in Malaysia. By then, we had been chatting on Skype for quite some time so our first 'date' was at the airport, briefly though coz I quickly whisked him off to a nearby hotel for ............ssssss......
Supper!!!!

If one is asked out for a "first date", whom ever asked that wonderful person, I think would be nice for that person to pay.
Spread the JOY.
Its a big enough step to ask someone.
Its a greater thing to be acknowledged, with a yes.
Pamper that gal/guy.
Its the opening.
If it goes haphazard at least you were cool.
If a second date happens, its up to both of you where you stand in paying.
All will tell then.
