I don't understand why so many people don't put up a fairly accurate picture of themselves. If there is some good reason please let me know. Maybe I should take mine down and put up a fake. Thanks in advance for responding.

I've never really believed in trying cast any illusions, what's the point? It is what it is, people are either going to accept it or not. I've met people from this dating site who didn't resemble their profile pic at all when we met, they'd used much younger images. Although maintaining politeness throughout our dates, I had already withdrawn any interest as they had deceived me already.
Suck it up, You are what you are and look like what you look like.
I had no pic for a couple of months when I joined the site, I didn´t have it because I was not really interested in dating here, no that I´m now but I just changed my mind; in any case my profile (I think) is very clear about that and also my behavior around forums & blogs.
I think each of us can do whatever we want with this picture thing, options are there, and no pic is one of them ....
I don´t know maybe they are just ...insecure? or prefer to use their words and no images, in any case it must be difficult if your image doesn´t match with the personality you tried to show here ....I don´t know. Don´t really care

I have neither looks nor personality. I’m in the zone. The ozone. Doesn’t bother me though that I’m ugly.
I can't remember what the options were when I signed up, but I thought it asked for a close up picture. I'd say a blank is more honest than a fake. But after a while I think people seeing so many blanks just decide to start taking theirs down too. Not really sure how that benefits the site. Anyway I don't care if people do or don't, just interested in hearing some of the reasons. Like ali says, it's just a chat.
Track16: I'm one of those who shouldn't have a pic up
Ok another one....who told you that? Track stop the BS....you are a nice looking guy, I told you once, you are too young for me but if you were more that 45 ha! I would have gone after your bones, guitar included....and that snow you have there wouldn´t stop me at all
Now take a couple of kisses from your virtual-CS-untouchable-big-sista LOL
My reason for no pic is that I'm not on the site for dating and not having a pic up keeps the mailbox empty which is the way I like it. Some people have had their profile pictures used by others who were up to no good as well.
Its up to the individual if they put a picture up or not. As Tokyo said, whats the point of using an old picture? However, if you're unlikely to actually meet anybody in person, whats the point of putting one up at all?
But if something happened on this site that makes people reluctant to post a real photo, then how about a head's up for the rest of us. I wasn't around for the pompom video.
One of my photos is 8 years old and I'd gladly take it down, but I don't know if I've stored it, I'm low on technology at the moment and my daughter took it, so I'd like to keep it.
The other two are 3/4 years old (my hair is much longer now), but I don't have anything more recent.
I'm not looking, I haven't changed dramatically and having no photo makes using the forums a bit confusing.
I'd rather people had any picture representing an aspect of themselves, whether that's their face, a beloved pet, their humour, their artwork, whatever. There's more to people than just their looks.
I think it's a rather silly and objectifying rule that you can have your face, or no face and it's rather inconsistently administered by the site.
I still see a lot of profiles having the same pictures from six years ago when I joined CS... I understand some people don't want to have a picture up, but don't understand why would you put an old or even very old one on your profile (Jac excluded) Being in the virtual world a photo is a the first thing one will be attracted (or not) to...like it or not... For those not looking (like myself) I believe is a way of showing a bit of respect to the others when talking to them on forums and blogs.
I don't understand your comment about respect for other posters, Krema.
I'm probably being somewhat pragmatic and maybe missing some social etiquette.
I'm using my phone, people's photos are tiny smudges with no username attached. Pat's pic is one of the most easily identifiable for me - I think his pic is great for that reason and I don't find it disrespectful that it's not altogether...um...up to date.
Yeah, Krema is right, we are generally visual creatures, but if we're not looking for a relationship where that's relevant there's no need for anyone to be attracted to us.
Any identifiable visual aid will do for recognition purposes.
