US troops in Syria prepare for more Russian attacks after crushing up to 300 mercenaries in February battle
US troops in Syria are digging in and preparing for future attacks after a massive battle played out in the country's east that ended with up to 300 Russian mercenaries killed by US artillery and airpower.
The Pentagon said the pro-Syrian forces, including many Russians hired by private military contractors, made an "unprovoked attack" on their positions with artillery fire. The US response included airstrikes and artillery shelling that sources say wiped out much of the advancing column in just minutes.
"Those artillery rounds could have landed and killed Americans, and that's why we continue to prepare our defences," Braga, who directs the US-led operations against ISIS, told NBC News.
Braga also confirmed that it was largely Russian nationals that took part in the fighting, though the Kremlin denies this.

However that didn't stop chemical weapons conveniently producing images of children being effected by chemical weapons no no. Time and time again American and other media rushed to assure the world the chemical bombings were the work of the democratically elected Assad government.
And that probably goes towards explaining the sudden rush to try and contain Putin support to rout the American, Saudi armed terrorists still holding people as human shields supported by you guessed it the dirty USA republican party.
During the earlier staged broadcasts of people including children adversely effected by chemical weapons it wasn't all that widely known that McCain's mates had been funneling arms into the current terrorists enclave that's about to fall back into the hands of the democratically elected Assad government.
I for one suspect evidence will be found somewhere that can be linked to the rats associated to the war mongering American Republican party, evidence probably of a chemical stock piles that the world may yet get to bare witness to...
One would hope our Head of State will demand that the allegations her PM May is leveling be tested in accordance with law or else..
