I watched it in the cinema. I've never read the book so I cant compare, but I thought it was a perfectly watchable but ultimately forgettable movie. It was obviously a movie to boast Kiara Knightley;s acting chops, but the bits I do remember don't involve her much at all, which is hard because she was in pretty much every single second of the movie.
What I remember is her plain sister telling her that others don't have beauty to fall back on, and most don't have the luxury of choice, and one must take anything that you can get in terms of husbands. And the other was the 3 or 4 scenes that Donald Sutherland spoke in as he was utterly superb, as usual. He owned the screen every single time he opened his mouth.
As for the rest... uh. Knightly had some arguments with some guy even more bland than she was? Thats about all I remember. Oh and the curtseying. SO MUCH CURTSEYING! AAAAGH!!!

I watched the film with my daughter when she was about 15.
Towards the end as the handsome and heroic Mr. Darcy strides across dewy the fields to pursue his passion, I narrowed my eyes, let out a deep sigh of longing and said,

"Just look at the tailoring on his coat!"
Apparently, that wasn't the correct response.
Congratulations! You don't have a scrap of romance left in you.
Sir_T: Wow. I've never thought of it that way before, but I can see how you are right. Brilliant. *mind expanding moment*
I recommend rummaging in charity shops and staying up until one in the morning executing last second bids on eBay to get the good stuff at an affordable price.
Your money will go to a good cause rather than sweatshop owners and child employers.
