Just like any relationship, there are no "one rule". Everything depends of what you want, and how much work are you prepared to do. that all I am willing to do.
LDR is not for everyone. That´s rule number 1.
Nº 2- Begin with the end in mind. If you both want it to work, great; if not you you know where you are.

Btw, I've been in LDR, successful one. I have no issue with LDR.

Well, I've built my whole carreer around the area where I live, created my own bussiness, have my own company, standing in the middle of the community.
Leaving all behind, starting from the bottom, while you won't be sure the relationship will lost, that would be stupid. I would ask her to have patience, meet each other regularly, spend the holidays together, I'm working in schools and dutch schools has at least 12 weeks holiday, so we would have much time together, and in 15-17 years I will be retired. If it is real love, she would understand that, and of course she can also look when she has the time to take a day of from her work, spending time with me.
After my retirement, I can go live with her, or maybe she is retired sooner than me.
But I also can say: I will start getting connected to schools in her area, see what opportunities there are, and if I can get enough work overthere, I can start living with her during the summerholiday when my pupils have had their exams.
Of course I will finish the year on the schools where I'm teaching now, I'll never let my pupils down. And due to the fact that there are more people in my area doing the same thing, I can let them take over in the next year.
