I love motorcycles and have decided to trade in my Honda Cruiser for a newer bike and I want to try another brand. If you're a biker I'd like to hear your suggestions.
Years ago in my lot younger days I preferred to have a Harley. Most of my younger married friends had them too.I just wished that they hadn't made so much noise.

Yes, Harleys are noisy and I'm afraid to get a ticket for noise pollution here where I live... The authorities here will invent anything to financially penalize the inhabitants. If I can put a noise supresser on it that would be good.

I had asked someone who just happened to be a man why Harleys are noisy and he replied back to me so the men couldn't hear us women talk over the noise. I just looked at him and smiled.

What he said was harsh. I guess because he didn't have any good answer. I don't need to have a loud motorcycle and if I have a passenger I have helmets equipped with two-communication. Good company and a long ride through the country is pleasant.

It is nice to be able to chat with the passenger while riding out in the countryside viewing nature and such.
My fav bikes were cruisers like boulevard bikes but one was also a pocket rocket. Runner up fav bike was my Harley fat boy. My favorite bike was my Yamaha VMax with ~165 ponies. Most comfortable saddle on any bike I owned. Not noisy. Tach red lines at 9500 rp.. try a VMAX and you’ll never go back!

Great post, Galrads Thank you for the info. I WILL definitely try a VMAX!

I have owned and rode many different bikes, all of them Japanese. None of them newer then 1994. My favorites and the most reliable were Hondas. I never rode a Harley but I knew a few Harley owners and they all told me their Harleys vibrated a lot, leaked oil and it were hard to keep all the screws, nut & bolts tight. But they all loved them because just the mere mention of the word Harley caused some women to drop their pants for them. It's been a few years since I rode and hopefully Harley has fixed some of it's earlier short comings. Even so I would still probably buy a Honda. Having rode both fully dressed bikes and bare bikes. A full dressed one would win with me hands down. I have ridden many times in the rain or cold and can tell you there's nothing that makes a ride more bearable in inclement weather then fairing & windshield.

Thank you for the info, Bigjb62 ! I like Hondas and have had Hondas for years. I want to try another brand now but might still choose a Honda... Although Galrads' suggestion is very interesting.
Honda GB500 tourist trophy (1990).. Loosely based on the classic 66 Velocette Thruxton 500 single... Both 500cc air cooled singles, both 50s cafe race style bikes, both simple engineering that a guy who's good with his hands can attend to...these bikes have that gorgeous 'bang per lampost' sound and probably idle at 400 rpm...as reliable as a fish and chip dinner, and all the class of an age gone by... All this fast sweaty plastic can't take the place of black gloss, shining chrome and the feel of a machine that puts you through your paces you as much as you open it up.... In two words.... Adrenaline rush....
This summer I was taken for a ride along the Wild Atlantic Way - the west coast of Ireland - by motorcycle. The driver was extremely skilled and I felt safe racing along the curves. I wished it had had 2-way communication because the scenery was so spectacular that I cried. (I know, I know... emotions and motorcycles don't mix... but I'm a Lady after all...)

I perfer european bikes over the japanse bikes, I find that japanese bikes seem to be setup for light weight people like asian people.. I'm an overly heavy person but the harder you ride the harder the bike is pushed. I'm a big fan of KTM.
My uncle had one of these, riding it was fun...a bit heavy for a teenager tho... Today I stay away from unreasonable risks...when you have a kid you think more safety...
