I love the countrylife, but a life close to the sea would be great too I suppose. I would like to have a small cottage in the mountains with a big lake close by. Something like Loch Lomond in Scotland.
charles_nz: Sadly, what one wants may not always be what one does.
One may prefer one of the options above, but be stuck in another, for financial reasons, or family reasons, etc.
Most of the money is made in the city, but personally I don't like polluted air, noisy traffic jams, inpatient people, large cues at the supermarket, high crime rates etc.

A valid feeling. For this reason, many "escape" to the countryside. But many want to, but are held back from the fact that there are very few jobs in the countryside... etc

When look out of the window I see countryside and I am surrounded by the beauty of nature...The sea is something very special....listen to the waves crashing against the rocks, smell the salty and hear the sea gulls calling out
When I was a young girl I lived out in the country when country was considered country. Then my parents moved us to a small town where they owned a business. After my father died my mother had moved her and I to a bigger city where I was no longer exposed to nature.

I am speaking generally, not of myself.
yes I understand your point of view and many would share it...not everyone likes the countryside or animals and I won't judge them....

Unfortunately, haven't got the chance to visit Wales yet, it's high on my wishlist. I have no driverslicence so while travelling through the U.K., the public transport is my only chance. I once went on my bike, all the way from Harwich to Okehampton, just past Exceter. Was planning to go to Land's end and then into Wales, but my bike gave up.
PeKaatje: Is it? I wonder. I love most of the British landscapes. Wish I had someone to drive me around for 6-8 weeks. It's worth it. Allthough I'm not to fond of the Youthhostells with heavily snoring people.
It's not the landscape, it's what they've done to the landscape. You don't want to see what's happened there.
It's hard to believe, I used to be a city boy! I can't go to the one gas station/store town 5 or 6 miles from my house now, without feeling worn out at the prospect of dealing with humans.
I live offgrid far in the country, on a dirt road where I often fall asleep, while I'm out starwatching, without any cars waking me up all night.
I keep a canoe in my yard; because I've paddled and sailed over 5,000 miles of rivers, the Gulf of Mexico, the Atlantic coast, and the great lakes.
If I get enough new neighbors who care about my lawn, that they raise the value and taxes on my land... I plan on selling it to them, and going back to sea.
I love living on uninhabited islands! I don't have any neighbors near me now; so it can feel like I'm on my own island for the time being.
If I sell my house, I was thinking Pagan Island sounds like a nice place to live.

I bet you have a few stories to tell about your voyages at sea...I have never spent time at sea before, but it's something to consider in the future
After spending 25 years living and working in London I moved to the outback in Australia. The town where I live has a population of 3000 people. That is about half those on the voters' roll in the part of London where we lived.
