Throughout history, the overwhelming majority of women have been just that.

And in the world today, a majority still are (just not as much in the West as in other parts of the world).

I hope that traditional values will return to the West one day.

I am a home maker. I am also a bread winner. A mother and an employee. A maid and a boss. I nurture my children and teach my employees.

The idea that a woman, or a man, cannot be both is ludacris.

Sounds to me like she didn't plan for retirement having chosen instead to ride the c*ck carousel during her better years NOW she wants to play a domestic homemaker? Ludicrous.

nothing shameful about wanting to be a home maker; nothing shameful about not wanting to be one.

Choices.

It means I’m selling the dishwasher

And the washing machine. What good are traditional values without traditional methods from the past.. what does her indoors do all day in a household of mod cons? Have a go at the dusting half an hour before I get in from work?

Vacuum cleaner, dishwasher, washing machine, frozen foods and disposable nappies - they all go. In my house the homemaker would have to do something she’s not done since before the 1960s - work.

Though you’ll find the more traditional family was the wife being the homemaker caring for the children, whilst the husband worked, the reality today is more women are forced to return to work due to a higher cost of living, large mortgages etc and share with the financial load to afford a reasonably comfortable lifestyle.

If the husband is earning a good income and he and his wife agree she should be the homemaker, all well and good, though it would need to be a mutual decision.

I think it’s probably beneficial for a parent to be with the children full time during the formative years, in particular, 0 - 3 years.

and no shame in being a homemaker. Raising children is an important role, if you both can afford a single income.

I’d have something very different in my mind to the lady of leisure. Workshy little bastards I hear that in America housewives even bring Mexicans into the home to do what little remains of their daily tasks. Disgusting slobs.

Hmmm, in 21 century I find it a bit strange for a woman to be a housewife only...
But hear a lot say they would love to be one...
50% of the women in my gym are housewives and they always sound like they are extremely busy people...
dunno

I'm all in favour of the stay at home wife, but in theses days os expensive property and the high cost of bringing up children properly, it's difficult.

It's not the cost Tom, in the modern days we live in staying at home full time sounds ridiculous...
Most women manage to work and maintain family and home...
Kids are not expensive to bring up, we make it expensive...because we want to...
I work and never in my home frozen diner has been served...never...Freshly cooked every day...
I am not killing myself as well...Priority and organisation are key words...

Some would say the homemaker went out of style with Rosie the Riveter in WWII.
But the real blow came with the electric dishwasher, clotheswasher, dryer, and vacuum. Microwave dinners didn't help.
The economy adjusted to the benefits, too. The more workers the more income; it helps balance the increased population. Now single-income families often have problems.
My take would be that homemaker was a traditional role, but in the developed world the niche may not be there anymore.

What if the woman makes $150,000 per year... and wants the man to be a home maker?... Most married families around me, both work, it's normal... Everybody's life is different, and every couple should make that decision that fits them best... My last neighbors... they both stayed home and raised their two kids... he worked from home, and traveled sometimes buying things, and she was always home with the kids... so, everybody's situation and needs are different. Even when I was little, once my older brother and me were in school, mom went back to her school job... and my dad worked two jobs for a while... they had kids to raise...

I raise my kids single handed, with no interference anymore, but they still try. When you had been bothered and abused by a whole family, privacy is the only answer. I'm lucky to have a responsible job, and earn a lot. I'm always available for my kids, at any time. None of my friends give advice freely, as they all feel I don't need it, and am doing a very good job as is. They will compliment.

There's a lot of women here, that do the same thing, you have my respect... thumbs up It can be done alone, like a lot of things in life can be... The two parent family seems like a thing of the past... and it's sad, at least for me...

I'm sure all the single mothers, would have wished for a two parent family, but it is out of our hands. I'm sure we each have a story to tell, and why we haven't married again. In my case abuse of all of us.

Yes there are a number of single parent families now. The world is falling to pieces. But most important for me will always be my kids and animals.
