I think jesus as written in the bible is against a government system. So a short system anarchist seems more likely
If the stories would have have shouted more about education, general health care or doctors, and that begging is not normal, i think he would be more of a socialist.
Really, jesus does not seem to mention education, jesus doesn't care about taxes. jesus also doesnt talk about marriage or best relationships.
If Jesus had to plow the field and harvest crops until back break, I'm sure he would have been against socialism. It is to say 'let's share' when someone else has to sweat to get it just like liberals.

Well, I don't want to say too much and waste member's precious time to read my rumbling but to make my point clear I must express my opinion.
Fictitious Jesus' socialism is a matter of ethical stand point and has nothing to do social aspect of view such as Plato's Utopia. For ethical reason, yes we have to share with the have not regardless of societal justification.
The socialism has root in the efficacy of achieving the better society by redistributing the wealth induced by authority. For instance if we share the wealth and eliminate the poverty and the run down area intown, actually I who contribute the wealth is the benefiter.
So the socialism is not an issue of dichotomy. It is a matter of how far we have to decide to share and spend for social program. For that aspect I think Jesus has nothing to do with socialism.
But you came up with brilliant subject to discuss.
Since 'Lucifer' tried to over throw Heaven... you can obviously determine that Heaven IS A REPUBLIC, a government of Divine Laws... but yet there was obviously freedom to allow dissent; which Lucifer took advantage of.

I’m leaning in the belief that Christians can be a capitalist or a socialist, but Jesus was neither.

Jesus was the author of Christian faith and knew how to pray but not for government.
It doens't really matter. Without the organised bit religion is just egotistically making it up as you go along, in America god is synonymous with the acquisition of wealth Jesus is not a socialist there.
At the time Jesus was around the Romans were using a system very close to capitalism, seeing Jesus as a threat to their plans, they arrested him and put him to death. So history would suggest that Jesus was pro-liberal and pro-socialism, and that the greedy capitalists, murdered those who opposed their ideology. somewhat the same as today, but instead of murder today they just make up lies and twist the truth to malign and destroy those who think differently. Personally I would say the idea Jesus was the ultimate Hippie is just about as close as you can get to his political ideology, neither for or against the left or right, but taking humanity as a whole and showing comfort and consideration for EVERYONE, including the environment and nature. "Make love not war" had to be his original quotation.

A bit like a Buddhist Monk I suspect. He would definitely been influenced by the Buddhist teachings which had spread over that area at the time.

Not sure about that lol, but think he would have hated the Romans ruling his homeland. He may well have supported the dissolution of the EU, Shame more people can't see the same mistakes being made
I would say that capitalism is the most living in the real world belief. It is the default human nature. Christ to an American is what Man United are to us; the banner of the tribe and a force of hooligans.
I would say the religion and the spirit is on the same ground as socialism. If you're not in it for the money, then why are you here? Socialism is otherworldly you'd have to lean on the holy spirit massively for it to work even partially.

I would contend that religion is set against the concept of private society and privacy itself. Capitalism exploded onto the scene in a window of history without big brother - not only in the decline of cathlicism and orgnaised religion but even on a personal level, the modern Christian does not believe that god is watching him all the time because he knows deep down that his religion is man-made and that man is himself.
Capitalism grew large in the gap between earnest religiousity and the modern surveillance state. A few centuries without big brother; a state of affairs that is actually unusual to the history of mankind.
I think jesus would have led some kind of rebellion when he saw that no matter who is voted in none of them actually work for the people but in their own best interest.....I think he would have been infuriated and led the people to overthrow the government and developed a system based prioritization of the actual people.....

The flaw in your argument is China, a country that has no religion and yet has a strong governance. Capitalistic in some ways, socialistic in most other ways.
I mean you can never brainwash yourself to the same degree somebody else could although a weird feature of no mate society are the cults. Private society and its secretive sin is also a lonely society wanting somebody to talk to, it also wants to offend everyone else for not giving it the attention it feels it deserves. Then come the cults.

Fascinating.... Where may I read that the Romans feared Jesus so they put him to death? Here I’v always thought the jews, the Sanhedrin actually, feared Jesus and ordered his death to be carried out by the Romans. And after ordering the jews wish for Jesus death said, "I am innocent of this man's blood; see you to it."
Oh God said to Abraham, “Kill me a son” Abe said, “Man, you must be puttin' me on” God say, “No.” Abe say, “What?” God say, “You can do what you want, Abe, but The next time you see me comin' you better run” Well Abe says, “Where you want this killin' done?” God says, “Out on Highway 61 ...

Maybe according to the bible, but that book was written by men who wanted to create a cult, rather than historical records written by Romans who just wanted to record events as they happened. everyone has the choice to believe whichever they want. I personally prefer historical records to a book full of lies and a multitude of historical mistakes. At that time in history the Romans had control of the jews, so why would they do something they asked to be done, unless the man in question was already a thorn in their side.
