By 'fake' I do not mean those profiles using photos that are 25 years old, who use the words 'curvy' or 'a few extra pounds' as metaphors for 'obese.' I do not mean those profiles who enter their income as $120k when they are actually unemployed and living in a rented trailer. I do not mean those profiles which describe themselves as educated, open-minded and socially well-balanced when they flunked high school, support the Klu Klux Klan, and pull the wings off flies as a hobby.
By 'fake' I mean those profiles specifically set up by scammers to catch naive individuals and scam them out of money, usually with a good-looking photo, and generic info.
If you get many messages from fake profiles, you shouldn't jump to conclude that fake profiles are are a substantial fraction. It's rather a minority but they send more opening messages in a day than genuine members send in one year.
Gotta be honest with ya, I don't think I've ever had a direct communication from a scammer. My assumptions are based on general observations of profiles. Of course I may be wrong about the subject, but only in degree, not in fact.

Sure I agree but I think from what I have seen how they work. They steal your replies or someone replies and use copy and paste which is lot faster. You may noticed if you ever got a scammer, there is no moving dots in Hangouts or Skype, then sudden, they have tons of things to say like that. See, they have all on file and choose one they like and post it. They are well street trained to use you and your mind to influence you. They also copy and paste to every single person on any dating sites even Facebook and emails everyone has. That is how they work.
By the OP's definition of fake accounts, only the ones created for spamming are included. Since those seem to only last a few days (being too obvious), I'd say less than 10%. The ones with lies in their profiles might be a majority, although many profiles are so short maybe not.
