No matter how brutal the truth is, would you still be honest with someone? Would you lie on a job application? Would you lie to get out of a traffic violation? To save your marriage/relationship? Medical issues?
Sometimes, for the benefit and wellbeing of others, it can be better to be economical with the truth. To tell a lie to benefit yourself is quite different than to tell a lie for the benefit of an other. It's all a matter of intent.

I think some people would agree with you. It's hard to be the bearer of bad news.

Plus, sometimes people don't really want the truth, or they may not be strong enough to take it. You have to use your judgement at times to know what is best in a given circumstance.

I agree. Some people can't handle the truth. They would sometimes rather being in denial. I've lost a good friend once when I told her I saw her boyfriend in a restaurant kissing another woman. I thought I was doing the right thing.

Would the animal lover point in the right direction when asked by the hunt, " which way did the fox go?" I think not. His intent would be to save the fox and send the hunt in the wrong direction, free from any guilt in his lie.

She may have already known about it. But her way to deal with it was to live in denial. It might go away all by itself. By you stating it in words, out loud, you made it real and something she would have to deal with.

I agree. We finally reunited after many years. She actually learned he had many other women on the side.
