St Valentine's Day is an annual festival to celebrate romantic love, friendship and admiration. Every year on 14 February people celebrate this day by sending messages of love and affection to partners, family and friends. Couples send Valentine's Day cards and flowers and spend special time together to honor their love for each other.
I know many will say "Love should not be appreciated only once a year but every day...and so on..." I think celebrating Valentine's day is a sweet way of adding some excitement to an existing relationship or a special way to start a new one... There's some kind of innocence and shyness in it and if it has turned into a materialistic and show off event there's nobody to blame but ourselves, right...

Selenite: I'd better not tell you I'll be in Sheffield for a few days in the next few weeks then
Although if you were to be in Sheffield, and you were to tell me, that might make Sheffield bearable for a while. That would be good for me, as normally I find Sheffield unbearable.

All things being equal I'd rather it wasn't a thing.
I'd rather give someone a gift because I saw or thought of some thing they'd like or something I wanted them to have, not because it's Feb 14 and a gift is expect.
Most Valentine's Day gifts are a little like reciprocal compliments. The mandatory "You look nice too." part of the mutual admiration society pledge. Completely meaningless to both parties.
That said if someone wanted to use it as a excuse to set a little time aside for each other, my opinion could probably be swayed a little.
