I definitely like fish, I have not done much research on the subject, but to the best of my knowledge, farm raised fish I would mostly agree on.. One that I avoid is, river fish that the water is highly polluted. Chemicals from big companies, and wastewater such as raw sewage, lead, heavy metals, and pesticides that wash into the waterways and contaminate the waters. It all washes into the rivers, eventually into the seas, and oceans...I mostly avoid bottom feeders, as they are exposed more than other fish, because most of it settles more to the bottom...Our bodys have a way of getting rid of the toxins, but too much of anything is not healthy...Farm raised, and pond fish I would think to be the most healthy...JMO...Interesting topic.
Follow the money - which companies stand to profit by demonizing Asian fish farm imports?
To note: The first very large-scale Pangasius producer in the Mekong mentioned at the start of the video was not blacklisted, just to be clear. Pangasius is a VERY popular fish worldwide, because it's comparatively cheap. From a health perspective, we need to know the food source.
Just as with garlic imports, use your own discretion when reading highly emotive articles trashing fish products from Asia, including China. It may be part of a PR campaign to protect US producers?
Reports of pollution, disease and environmental damage are regularly reported from a range of fish-farming countries, including Scotland, Norway, and Canada.
After indulging on many occasion on the excellent wild salmon that used to be on sale in Seattle, I know what the real thing tastes like. Farmed salmon doesn't taste much like that, and I have stopped eating it. I now keep to the small stuff....why? - because pilchards, sardines, herring, don't live long enough to build up too much heavy metal. I keep away from shark, tuna, the big stuff.
Sometimes Tasmanian salmon, never Vietnamese catfish...
Of course, Tasmanian salmon has similar issues of environmental degradation both from the waste as well as the raping of the ocean to feed them. But we have environmental regulations and clean water, so it's probably no worrse than eating beef or something. I catch my own sometimes, species that would not be highly regarded as table fish, taste just fine straight out of the ocean.
I try to avoid farmed fish where possible. Apart from the lack of taste and quality, diseases and lice from farmed fish are destroying the wild population.

I once caught a fish off the Andemann coast, it was in a frying pan 20 minutes later. Ate it next to a fire on the beach - best tasting fish ever!!

Any fish caught and eaten fresh, especially outdoors, will taste like the nicest thing you've ever eaten.
I don't buy saltwater farmed fish if I can avoid it.
I like trout and went to a local supplier to look at it and buy trout. I wasn't impressed. If possible, buying local and checking the conditions how any kind of animals are reared is what I prefer.
galrads: I buy most of my fish from McDonalds... Packersbabe
