So often when I'm driving along the streets or highway, I notice that some of the elderly drivers are just too old to be driving. I feel bad for them but some are very unaware or over medicated and don't realize the danger they can cause other's. They cut you off and have no idea that they did it, you honk at them and they don't even hear you, they drive so slow and I often wonder would they be able to hear any firetrucks, ambulances or police trying to pull them or someone else over, the police may even be in a high speed chase. Everyone else knows to pull over so those can get to where they can safely to get to their destination quickly. I feel the elderly can't or don't pay attention to their surroundings. It's too easy for them to get their licenses renewed for them because the required testing is way too easy to pass.
Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against the elderly, I just feel safety for everyone comes first.
I know what you mean, some are a danger on the road. But if I had to choose between an older experienced driver or a young inexperienced driver, I'd go with the oldie.
I think elderly should be able to drive even if they are wearing diapers again and as long as they can still reach the pedals, pass the vision reading and periphery tests and respond when someone calls them by their first name(s)
secretagent09: I agree that some of the elderly are oblivious to rules of the road but they aren't the only ones.
I've noticed that those from Asian countries aren't familiar with how to safely drive a car especially women.
In addition, the young who are restless and want to speed and race at traffic lights
For me the worst are those who don't use their turning signals
A lot of senior drivers seem to be careful considerate drivers , unlike the very young drivers who use the roads as a race track. AS long as they pass the medical requirements they should be able to drive as long as they want, this seems to be ageism, a stereotype put about by people who have a very different reason for maginalising the seniors. There are many bad drivers in all age groups.

Totally agree with all of that. Here we have have high insurance rates due to all the dangerous driver's, young and old. I too, hate the no turning signals. I also can't stand the one's who are in such a hurry that they are willing to cut you off when there is no one behind me and they could've just waited to pull up after me, then to realize they aren't getting anywhere faster because both lanes ahead are not moving any quicker so they have no other way to go around them.
I hate the way people drive but I have to try very hard not to yell, hot or flip them the finger, because here, you'll get shot out of road rage.

That's a good point! I think I'd rather the older as I am a defensive driver and I may get aggravated by them, I can at least not have to worried about some crazy person with road rage also.

It would never cross my mind to do the finger thing. I also don't shout at someone. Doing things like that encourages road rage. What I do is tell myself to let it go because in a minute I will be away from them.

Oh yeah, none of those things I mentioned, do I actually do because as I mentioned, there could have serious consequences so I just have to put up and shut up

Buy being very aware of my surroundings, getting out of someone's way when they tailgate me, I don't crank the stereo so I can here any siren's around me and watch out for pedestrian's who don't utilize the crosswalks properly and hands on the steering whell on 10 and 2.

Defensive driving in my New Jersey opinion is a form of multitasking. Watching straight ahead but at the same time being aware of what is going on beside you as well as far ahead.
I learned in driving class in high school that if your eyes are only on the car right in front of you you will not be prepared for the accident that might be way ahead down the road.
People in today's world have their eyes on the car right in front of them and their cell phone as they glance back and forth between the road and the phone.
I am quite a calm driver. I just drive carefully, if a little fast on the motorway, and try not to let other drivers get under my skin.
I figured you would/did get the gist of my corrections, but some other's might be quick to happily enjoy pointing out my spelling and get a quick jab at me. Not so much do I care about the mockery but why not save them the opportunity and effort.
Sounds like you are a good driver.
One other pet peeve is distracted driver's. The one's who text, eat, talking on the phone, etc. while driving. I never do any of those. I am not coordinated enough to do so and I learned my lesson a few years ago. I was on my way to work one day and my daughter kept calling me. I wouldn't answer. Then I wondered if there was an emergency, which ended up being something unimportant, within about 15 seconds of taking my eye off the road, I wrecked my Lexus. I took out a street like and a traffic light and totaled my car. I was pissed of course, so I haven't done that ever again. I was lucky enough not have hurt anyone.

Typos are always acceptable
Bummer on the crash I have been lucky, I've never even had a minor tip. I rarely get phone calls even at the best of times because everybody knows I hate the phone but I do have bluetooth in my car if I do have to take a short one. I don't drive any more than I have to anyway, I walk where I can.

Thank you but there's always a troll lurking to try to get a response.
I don't drive much either because I get severe anxiety due to other's inconsiderate and dangerous driving habits.
