Saw on you tube that a young person had never been taught anything about old diseases that many have come back to the US. Wondering how much of history kids even learn anymore. If you forget the past, you are doomed to repeat it.
He was the Doctor you called on New Years Eve, because you were soooo sick from drinking booze, that you sent him home with a bottle of Champagne.........because you had just swore off booze FOREVER !!! .........Actually, he was part of the shootout at the O K Corral.
I heard the name Doc Holiday before, but do not know anything about him.
Greetings neighbor. Message if you want a penpal. He was a dentist who contracted TB. At the time the only treatment was to head out west to dry, warm air and rest. He headed out there and became pals with the Earps, mainly Wyatt. He was a gambler and a drunk. When the shoot out against Ike Clanton and the McLaurys in the alley next to the OK Corral occured, he sided with the Earps. The fight was over the killing of one of the Earp brothers who was a lawman. If I remember right, he survived to die in bed of TB. The old west makes fascinating reading. Most way different than movies.
Of course YOU would turn around my point entirely, the teaching of Western History to young persons is primarily through what their parents (2005) view.
Well there you go, it is just like another episode from that 2005 TV Western, Deadwood.
BTW the midwest is pretty well represented here on this thread. ( Oregon resident by way of Boise,Id, Pocatello, Id, Tetonia, Id, Jackson Hole, Wy and Bozeman , Mt. and originally from Madison, Wi.) Our highways were often old routes for wagons or cattle drives and referred to as Trails. The stops were sometimes forts, river crossings, indian/trapper villages and mining towns..and on rare occassions a canyon hideout. Before settlers, miners, cowboys and mountain men the animal's migrations determined our routes.
I chose Ashlander as my new moniker a few years after I had a Montana Acct. (mtncabingirl) It is relative to my relocation to Oregon, not Ashland , Wisconsin. I studied the latitudes of my relocations and found my Ashland and an eastern Ashland are almost the same latitude.

ashlander: Strike Two! Resumes .... South Dakota (Tombstone)? Ever show them to the Antique Roadshow for appraisals and authenticity?
lol
Tombstone Arizona. You have to get stamps and postal history autheticated at A PEX, American philatelic expertizing service. Pony Express gets too pricey I only have a few. Theres a few other specialized authentication services in U.S. In Europe the best one is GPSY, Germany for most Europe.
I have been to his grave site in Glenwood Springs, Colorado. In Glenwood Springs they have natural hot springs that back in Doc Holliday's time were used to treat tuberculosis patients.
