Tiger_Moth: Why are there so many Islanders posting nothing but hate filled post in the forum threads lately?
Can we blame covid lockdowns for their extreme negativity?....
Why do you continually call non Americans "islanders. Isn't that negativity.
I'm English ,Jac's Welsh, Michaelright's Irish as is Pedro , the list is endless and their country is visible on their profile.
This thread is not about anyone who does not live on an island and does not intend to include all whom live on Islands. I specifically said ‘so many Islanders.’ Maybe my American English not so good.
My paternal grandmother was an Islander born in Isnello Sicilia. The word Islander is not a slight an insult or anything else negative or however you interpret it it to be.

Nothing to do with your English ,it's a habitual thing with you on the Forums.
gonelikethewimd: It depends on the person who is calling you that.....do you know their intent..
My late husband was called a Dago all the time...depending on how it was used and who said it..he knew when it was an insult..
Especially, when some have asked for you to quit...
You are on a rant so forget my post and forget me please. Their is only one my 1st generation full blood italia parents were ever triggered by, no matter how it was said. The G word.

galrads: I believe you will find this in the oxford dictionary for Islander…
a native or inhabitant of an island. "the majority of the islanders lived at subsistence level"
Crikey Gal Now that really is overstepping the mark. It beggars belief that you would call people "islanders" if that is how you view them..
subsistence level [s?b'sist?ns 'lev?l] NOUN a standard of living (or wage) that provides only the bare necessities of life. "many peasants hardly existed above subsistence level"

Tiger_Moth: Read post 9 of your thread Galrads. I just interpreted it.
No not interested in a poll about hate quite frankly as it just encourages it, especially on here.
All the threads posted by people living on islands do nothing for the most part but breed more negative threads that you joyfully participate in but you ridicule my thread for trying to understand why all the negativity from people living on islands?
I thought my hypocrisy was unchallenged but you have mine beat by a mile.

Check again Gal. I don't participate in many threads these days ,just read and move on most of the time as it's all so terribly boring on here at the moment.
I didn't ridicule your thread, just enquired why the continual use of the word "islanders"
Seems you are the one that took offence and raised it to a whole new level.
I don't think it's an island versus non island thing. I think it's how certain people were brought up. I think it touches on some narcissism also. The need to be in control of something and have it be their way or the highway. The best thing this site did was to get rid of the block button from threads as it Denys the narcissists need for complete control, thus allowing all forms of opinions and thoughts.
Not all who put up threads continuously are narcissists, but the ones who do are the ones who put the thread up and then want to control or go against everything everyone says without looking at the other side for once. The ones who contradict themselves at the drop of a hat to gain the upper hand. Thinking everyone else is stupid enough not to see it, but they do.
Living on an Island as I do I see it as a positive..a sense of unity and its exotic to be from an island
"If only we could roof it" (quote from Irish comedian Pat Shortt)
But I guess Gal if alot are taking it negatively and requested nicely to stop as it offends them then I dunno might be time to stop. Maybe then others will learn from your good example and stop what they are doing negatively too.
