When I was a kid 12 or 13 YO, living in the upper east side of Manhattan, me and some friends would go down to Bloomingdales a few times during the Xmas holidays and open taxicab doors for shoppers in hopes of getting some tips. That's one of the things I liked about Xmas. And presents of course. Sometimes me, my mother and older brother and sister would go out to Long Island and have Xmas dinner with my much older brothers family. That was one of the rare times I got to have a great meal. Some years my father would come and bring us some Xmas presents. That was like a double blessing, seeing him, and getting some goodies. These days I don't even celebrate Xmas.
I've had many different types of Christmases in 3 different countries with within a 4 generations family. All great in their own way.
My least favourite is when the emphasis is too much on "presents" and not enough on "spending time together" and enjoying preparing food and sweets and eating together and playing games and having a laugh. Ahhhhh! if there can bee singing then I'm ecstatic! I like Christmas carols although I'm not religious because they bring back memories
Leading up to Christmas was always hectic, working in the hospitality industry, but come Christmas Day , there was always a feast with lots of food, drink, dancing & singing Greek style . Opas
Some days ago I went to shop in Lidl. Western Europeans know the store. But for you Americans it’s a low cost food store chain all over Europe. Anyway, when you came I to the store there were two big pallets of Chocolate boxes. Alladin and Paradis brands. Hundreds of boxes it was. Next day I came and almost all were sold! I was standing and laughing load watching the remains when my son asked me “Why are you laughing?” I said to him “This was full yesterday and goes to prove how bad imagination people have in buying Christmas gifts!” While hovering around to pick groceries, 4 more people came and took boxes and both of us was laughing loudly every time another person without imagination bent over and picked up a box. It’s just another stupid Christmas tradition we have. I get a couple of such boxes every year and so does everybody else to. And the owner of the Chocolate factory laughs to, all the way to the bank!

Today's news on Government Swedish tv. Christmas is discriminating! Women do all the preparations! Men should help more is the solution according to the labor union. I say no one is forcing them! They put that preassure on them self, to have that perfect Christmas. And when the main dish gets burned in the owen, the world come crashing down and Christmas is ruined! It never happens to friends on Facebook! Much more relaxing with a TV dinner in the micro! I don't like medecin, but if there was a pill that allowed you to hibernate during winter I would buy it!
