There are many examples of God's people petitioning Him with/through prayer. Here are a few biblical examples:

"Hear the petitions of Your servant and Your people Israel, which they pray toward this place. May You hear in Your dwelling place in heaven. May You hear and forgive." (2 Chronicles 6:21)

"Blessed be Yahweh, because he has heard the voice of my petitions." (Psalms 28:6)

"Never worry about anything. Instead, in every situation let your petitions be made known to God through prayers and requests, with thanksgiving." (Phillipians 4:6)

"The real widow, left all alone, has put her hope in God and continues night and day in her petitions and prayers;..." (1 Timothy 5:5)

"And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him." (1 John 5:15)
