Ten_of_cupss: I agree decriminalising may help users... But still we need to concentrate on making the society a better place for people who need help before they even reach for the drugs. Take care of the cause and not try to make the horror of the consequence look less ugly. People would not need drugs if they were not alone in their struggle.
Exactly, go upstream and find out why they're falling in the river.
Back in high school, we had a Canadian version of the D.A.R.E. program. The cops came into school, showed us a bunch of drugs, told us what the drugs done to you, told you where to find the drugs. They said don't do drugs, and left again.
Ten_of_cupss: I am not surrounded by such people, nobody in my family drinks or takes any substances. I am an ex smoker and "rarely" for me means I do not drink alcohol... I've seen how easy the "recreational" drug use turns into a violent or downgrading event when I lived abroad... Have you seen the reality of legalising drugs? The fentanyl crisis in USA? Just because you think it is harmless doesn't mean it really is...
A lot of the drugs problems in the US (and the UK/Europe) were actually created by GPs themselves. perfectly ordinary normal people being turned into addicts by their own GP's ! And knowingly too! So explain that to me if you will...
Alcohol is the one that causes the most violence and not just on the streets either, it's often in the family home .out of sight..where it can't be seen..
Ten_of_cupss: I advice you to watch some documentaries from the last few months, especially about USA... 100 000 deaths a year from overdose which are known, imagine how many more unknown... Alcohol and cigarettes can not be compared to drugs, Fentanyl for example, as cheap as 10$ is 50 times stronger than heroin... We are missing the point here. Decriminalising the drugs will not make the use less attractive... On a contrary, many will go down that path out of life struggle because it will be easier to stone yourself with a 10$ drug. Cheap and strong drug will overshadow the alcohol and cigarette appeal... And when legalised it will be even cheaper. Desperation and deepening economic crisis will lead to more and more addicts, legal or not...
Decriminialising does not mean they're being made legal..
Track16: Hard drugs are destructive. It rewires your mind, turns you from a normal person into a hateful angry skeet with a severe addiction problem. I see no reason why it should be legal. I would like to see it decriminalized though, lot of people been after dying because they od'd and their buddies were too afraid of going to jail to get help. It needs to remain illegal though,
Yeh, hard drugs are..but the most destructive ones are theones that gps are handing out like sweeties to milloins every day.... the biggest and most insdiously dangerous drug at the moment is in every child's hands...their phones and their "likes" on social media....
Apparently the feeling of pleasure the kids are getting from those pings on their phones have been proven to be the exact same as the high from taking (not sure which drug , think it's ) cocaine...
We are looking at an absolutely massive tsunamai of mental health problems coming down the track...and absolutely no one is preparing for it either...

We are stuck in a world of problems now. Society is crumbling and with drugs offering a escape, people are getting themselves in trouble. Drugs tend to follow money and misery. There is lots of misery these days so drugs for some people is the only break they get from whatever it is we call life these days.

my heart goes out to those kids who need drugs to escape their pain...so young and yet suffer so much...why does the world have to destroy so many young lives and then kicks them to the kerb,,it's symptomatic of a very sick society imo.
Drugs are drugs whether "Legal or Illegal" You can get "spaced out" on Ibuprofen. I know this as a "fact" I had a trapped nerve in my neck when I lived in "Spain" sorry I mentioned Spain I went to the Hospital who prescribed Tramadol, I took 2 tablets over 2 days and felt awful with nausea They went back to the Pharmacy. Being in such excruciating pain, I overdosed on ibuprofen just to get rid of the pain. Again, when I had my hip replacement done in Spain in 2019, I requested "NO Tramadol. I was prescribed "Palexia" which is an "opioid" but it's legal
I agree that smoking is a drug but you don't see smokers taking up beds in the A&E department every weekend. Maybe we should all stop breathing air?
Track16: Thats what I always said. I end up into drugs because I didn't know any better and I was looking for a escape from my life. Fix the issues that make people turn to drugs and you will see far less people into it. Education and a better society would go a long way.
I totally agree with your thoughts. But I do have a question. A lot of people go through challenges and sufferings in life. However one part of people try to find a solutions to change their life for the better. It is not simple but possible, if people really want to. And another part, choosing drug's way to create an illusion that everything is good. Which doesn't fixing problems in a long run. Do you think that those who have chosen a way off drugs are weak? The money spent on drugs could be spent on a different way to resolve life struggling.

For that, you have to see clarity. When you are stuck in a situation or just depressed in general, you don't always see things clearly. Your prospective is distorted and so is your thought process. Drugs offers a quick escape which people are looking for. The problem is that with time, drugs only creates more problems. Drugs is a lie, it starts out good but thats the illusion. With a bit of time, you stop having fun and then everyday you have more and more problems.

I think they're strong but on other hand the meek inherit the earth. In the old days only the strong survived part and parcel with having 8 kids to watch the weakest 5 die. Nowadays the weakest might not be the weakest those traits that make a scientist weak in the jungle are a strength in the lab. The worst survivor in a state of nature is an asset today. We need more of the creative type in society and society can protect the fragility of creative types.
blathin: Ah god, I'm sorry to hear that about your wife Bodleign..and your friends . It sounds like you've seen a side to life that few ever do.
At last, someone who's actually seen the 50's drug scene and can vouch for their being legal back then. you know no one ever believes that, they all think drugs were always and forever illegal...
God, I feel guilty now for giving you hard time there a while back., can't remember about what though.....but don't worry, I'll be grand tomorrow again
You did more than give him a hard time. You were ridiculously obnoxious to him.
Any chance your bipolar??? Hate em one minute , love em the next. The feigned empathy is kidding no one love.
2 Rasta men were caught with a bag of marijuana in a bank . After being questioned by the police , they were asked what they were doing with a bag of marijuana in the bank . One of the Rasta men replied. “ we were going to open a “joint” account “
all illegal drugs should be where they belong in a cess pool somewhere. and besides how can the cops and rehab centers make money on them if they legal.
