Condor009: If public lust for revenge or joy at seeing the death sentence being carried out were true, open public executions would have become as popular sporting events long ago.
They used to be. dunno

I'm all in favour of enlarging the criteria for the death penalties demanding at the very least public executions, no fees charged to attend, and televised live with no commercial breaks. Enlarge the criteria to include stupidity, crimes of economic terror waged on the poor, having hill-billy accents, wearing mullets, belonging to any Republican organization singing any country western songs in public, killing any non-white person, social predators, sechs perverts religious extremists be they Zionists and any Evangelicals; all believers in the Apocalypse or the rapture, i.e. religious nuts; NRA fanatics and members...like who actually needs any of these types to make a healthy and sane society. Really.
you're a nutter. roll eyes

I'm against the death penalty because I don't think the police, the judiciary and the people who like them care about truth and justice. They're a selfish moral blank that preys on losers and does not really care about innocent or guilty. The law is just the power to enforce your will where the weak make way for the strong.

We have lots more stuff now to prove guilt so no mistakes but yes a humane way to the death penalty.
Dont see why our money should keep them locked up, fed and watered.

The money would be better spent in helping offenders leave prison with better idea how to live a good life.

We should have working prisons, prisoners working earning from earnings board and lodgings took off and to pay their families they left behind.

And from the other side of the equation revenge isn't always the answer. All the police did for my murdered best friend was devalue the bravery award he won by awarding it to themselves for arresting some children. And the guy who did it was literally insane and it feels like losing someone to a natural disaster than real evil.

There are arguments both for and against the death penalty, but executing people to save a few quid sounds morally dubious to me. uh oh

I watched the tv interview with Billie Wayne Coble, his last before his execution. It was very interesting that he accepted what was to be, as they waited to see if he could get a last minute reprieve.
But the family of the 3 victims he murdered had their side to the story!
The time of the execution his son and daughter in law ended up being arrested at the execution.

Didi7: That is certainly more humane, but the cost to taxpayers is usually compounded by the large number of 'wards' that the State/Country has to house (feed, clothe, counsel, educate, medicate, etc).
I seriously do not know how I feel about the death penalty. I have had personal contact with it. If you asked me ten years ago I would of said if the person was caught red handed doing the deed then yes put him or her down. Now all I feel is empty. Even if the person was caught red handed I can tell you from my experiance it did bring closure but no satisfaction. He was fed clothed and got married while he waited 28 years for excution. blues The six women did not have that opportunity. Only one of them was wed, the mother of the young teenage girl he killed. crying Me I waited for that feeling of happiness to come when they put him down like the animal he was. It did not come. It never came. Just an empty cold feeling that at least now it was over. The pig was bragging to reporters about his vicious murders till his death. They and I do believe there were many more than six. But not enough proof to charge. moping moping The article does not tell how he tortured them before killing them.

Imagine how many people a drug dealer can help kill, selling them drugs...
The greedy trafficker doesn't care if your child will be groomed into drugs...
You will say it is a personal responsibility to educate your children and everyone else to stay away from drugs...right?
What do we do with someone who doesn't value human life and kills cause they can.
We need to better our judgement and not try to make a killer feel better about himself.
But still there is something called social consciousness and responsibility...which clashes with the painful eagerness for individuality with the modern world.
Selfish and cold as a dead fish, yet pretentious and two faced...
You will call me a murderer for eating meat and protest against my eating habits hysterically but will let a real killer off of the hook...cause it makes you feel you are the bigger person...

I am sorry you had to experience this...I have gone back and forth on how I feel about the death penalty...I am sure as you did...the feeling from families is emptiness..and if nothing else..closure. It doesn’t bring back the lives they took from the families who loved them....

I am glad that in Florida, they abolished the electric chair...and now, they use lethal injection.

rolling on the floor laughing I decided to have some fun and actually SOME of what I feel regarding the death penalty, as personified in the film Democrazy. Try it....you may like it. I could have listed ideas all day for the death penalty; the US is a cornucopia of all sorts of crimes, from merely existing to trying to speak coherently, even town names. It feels good to put down one's thoughts uncensored by anything or anyone. cheering

I watched the "Life and Death Row Series" on BBC Player, plus the "Death Row" Interviews on ITV Hub.

I've just watched "The Murder of Logan Mwangi" That was horrendous and it only happened in August 2021. That poor little boy was only 5yrs old and how his own Mother, her partner and her partners stepson aged 13 could do that to him well! it's just heart rendering crying How the Mother rang the Police to say her son was missing etc....she would make a good actress, little did they know that the Police had CCTV of her partner and his stepson carrying the body from the house to the car and she was opening and closing the curtains in the house. The injuries that, that little boy suffered was just horrific and he could have been saved if they had just called for an ambulance but no, they left him to die a painful death and then dumped him in the river. Just unbelievable very mad

Sorry not saving just a few quid doh it takes a lot more money to look after as it were a killer.

I did say the money would be better off spent on rehabilitating prisoners to leave prison and be more constructive in a life. Surely that would be money better spent than keeping them locked in a cell for most of a day.

prisons could be like big factories so prisoners could go to work each morning, earn a wage and yes board and lodgings taken out .

Or did you mean keep looking after killers at the expensie of saving others

confused

Chesney !!! mentally ill killers go to a different prison

Not true Exred.

Thousands of people with a mental health disorder are in prison because no safer alternatives were available when a court had to pass sentence, according to a new report (PDF) by the Royal College of Psychiatrists.

Up to 8,000 prisoners — around 10% of the current prison population in England and Wales — could have missed out on a community sentence or a suspended prison sentence with a Mental Health Treatment Requirement (MHTR) because specialist mental health services do not have the resources they need to deliver them.

I don’t really have a strong opinion on it , but it would make more financial sense to spend the taxpayers money on those law abiding citizens who need it the most , rather than keeping dangerous criminals locked up indefinitely.

Time and time again, it's been shown that it costs less to incarcerate someone for life than it does to sentence them to death.
The financial argument for the death penalty just doesn't stand up to scrutiny......

"Much to the surprise of many who, logically, would assume that shortening someone's life should be cheaper than paying for it until natural expiration, it turns out that it is actually cheaper to imprison someone for life than to execute them. In fact, it is almost 10 times cheaper! How can that be?"

To find out why.....

As I said , I don’t have a strong view on the topic , but I’m sure if the legalities were more efficient with less bureaucracy & ted tape involved, then it would be more cost efficient to implement the death penalty.
