As you're so "thick" Chris, maybe you should try and learn about the Uk first and foremost. Tell that to your friend rolling on the floor laughing

No disrespect intended but I'm wondering if you have had a mental health check of late.
You continually pump out thread topics that appear meaningless and are rarely participated in.
My understanding is that you are retired which is when depression and a search for meaningful daily activities can kick in.
I'm on your side; I'm 66 now, still working and not planning to retire until I find something rewarding to participate in.

Too lazy to type plus the fact that ads charge by the letter so to make it cheaper, words like colour and harbour were spelled wrong to make the ad cheaper and the misspelling become mainstream.

Hi serenewave

I thought the same at one point but I think he knows exactly what he's doing which is being totally disrespectful on an almost daily basis to us " islanders". He's even filled the first page of the UK forums with the same tripe.

Who in their right mind would post a thread about a country's dominant language when they live in the U.S which is also full of immigrants. Just another wind up merchant with too much time on his hands.

sigh

The Americans did away with ye olde English more than we have and they have a language that goes with their towns and cities - a great big logical square assembled overnight and short on character. It's history that still features in the queens english.

It's basically modern to say what you're going to say using the least you can. The least letters, the least words, the least sentences because what sets the tone of language in the modern world? Economy.

But the question is which character predominates in the Queen's English: German (ANgleo-Saxon), French (exceedingly decadent Latin), or a trace of Latin? BTW, the extra letters we dropped were predominantly added by the French to Latin words, weren't they?
