To put you off. I like talking to strangers but I don't think it's a good idea. I think we need to unlearn what we were accustomed to in a free society which are things like openness, trust and freedom of association.
It's not really that I fear the unknown it's that I fear the people who fear the unknown. What today's society really needs is 48 hours queueing up to see the dead queen, the culture as one homogeneous block none of this foreign muck or the strange ways of technology and the internet. It's having a laugh to believe it can handle diversity it needs to stick to what it knows, anything actually diverse it will kill.
Having a photo up means nothing. I can see people who haven't changed theirs since I joined this site 10 years ago. I can be put off faster by a photo than a lack of one. But yes, a photo says even more than we realise.

Whilst I see your point about "...people who haven't changed theirs since I joined this site 10 years ago", I don't agree that "Having a photo up means nothing". To many people besides me, a photo really says a lot especially if it's a true and recent likeness of the person that I want to get to know (and date). After all, this site is primarily about 'dating'. Not so?

For someone who doesn't think it's a good idea "talking to strangers", you do an awful lot of that, CC!!

"Means nothing" as it is never clear if it's recent or if it the same person. Many stage their photos, showing "reality" different from their actual one. People falling for scammers or fake "real" people are way too many, let's be honest. Therefor, having a photo up isn't what we think it is...not anymore.
No picture is OK to bee fair , as Tiger Moth said not everyone is here to date. Plus those who do have pics up who is to say it is even them also....you can't trust everything you see, or can't see

That may be true, but the same way that we accommodate men by saying that they are 'visual' beings as it pertains to appeal, isn't it the same for most women also. In other words, don't we want to see who we're chatting with; isn't that 'visual' important towards arousing and maintaining appeal?
Good thoughts don't need a face but every face needs good thoughts. Good thoughts matter, not the face. A person with good thoughts, though ugly, will be liked by your heart and a person with bad thoughts, though good-looking, will not be liked by your heart.
Good thoughts need to be implemented.
Because we all have a habit of talking face to face since childhood, so our brain tries to find the face.
If I talk about myself, earlier I used to have my photo in my profile. I used to add my new photo every month, but one incident changed everything. Now I am neither interested in seeing someone's face nor in showing my face, I am only interested in sharing and reading good and new thoughts .
Because I report spammers all the time, and don't need my face shown to them. And if all the woman wants is a photo to make her decide to meet me, then she's shallow, likely a THOT chasing someone to pay her way through life, and being a female chauvinist by emphasizing the importance of beauty over substance. Hmph!

I'd like to see his face AND his good thoughts, please.

I could understand your reason for being 'incognito', but don't agree that a woman is SHALLOW just because she wants to see the face of the man she's chatting with. That comment is 'shallow'. God created us all with faces because they are a part of our identity, and can say much about us, even in a pic.
