Around a fifth of GP's salaries are from commissions on drugs they prescribe.

My GP looks after me very very well and also looks after my whole family. She is brilliant. And it’s all for free. So I appreciate my doctor and everything she does for us.

Don’t be ungrateful for such good care which comes for free.

I'm not being ungrateful, but it still reains a fact the the drug companies pay our GP's commission for the drugs they supply.

My GP. Phones me at 7.30 - 8 pm to tell me the results of my blood tests and anything that she wants me to do about it. That’s hours after the GP surgery has closed but she’s still working being so dedicated to her patient. I had a long battle with anemia which made me very ill and I was hospitalized and she got it all fixed. So I love my GP and whatever she gets paid she deserves her money because without her I’d still be very unwell. And I never had to pay a penny for all this service because we have the NHS so I am very grateful for all the nhs staff who look after me and my family.

We lost a great Doctor. He moved out of state to get away from the UW Hospital that rules the whole state. Wanted to work for local hospital and they said no cause contracted with UW. In the US, patients are lucky to see a Doc for 10 minutes. Half of that time they have one foot out the door. Why is the US and New Zealand the only countries to allow drug advertising to the public?very mad

if the sheeple knew who owned the politicians and doctors...perhaps we would finally see them wake up to the true reality and push backconfused crazy party sheep

what a crazy idea...people thinking the nhs is free...when it is funded only by taxpayers money and over the last couple of years...the waiting lists are off the charts for all major medical conditionsdoh

What do you do for medical help say under emergent conditions where your gallbladder ruptures, or if you get stabbed, or someone throws acid in your face or you get a detached retina while boxing?

If you lived in the UK you would be taken in as an emergency and treated so fast and made all better again,

Although some treatments are not 'available' under the NHS.

I had a retired English friend living here in Spain, who had diabetes and was going blind. He needed a procedure -to save his eyes- that could only be performed by a highly skilled surgeon.
In the UK that procedure was not avalaible under the NHS because it was 'deemed too expensive' and he would have gone blind. Yet here in Spain that procedure is available under the Spanish NHS and he was able to have it and have his eyesight saved. Most diabetic people in the UK may not be aware that there is treatment that couple improve the quality of their life but they don't have access to it under the NHS.

Just an example to show that there exists 'financially imposed limitations' in any NHS system in any country that would affect the level of treatment people may receive (or not) at times.

We're quite lucky to have the NHS, it does limit corruption and I never really looked at healthcare as the same as other welfare. Give people free money and they won't get a job. But if you ban medicine this won't encourage people to become immortal. If you have no healthcare you will become slender and sound of mind discovering that prevention is better than cure? No, you will not.

There is no such thing as free health care.
Everyone pays taxes and social insurance.
A GP isn't a specialist, and often one have to wait for months to see one or go to a private clinic.
Same with dental care.
It is true doctors work with certain pharmaceutical companies to prescribe their medicines.
It is not against the law and it is a worlwide practice.
And of course they are paid for doing that.
Should they be open about this, well, it won't change anything anyway.
it is an ethical matter after all, if they sell someone's drugs intentionally...
And ethics don't make you cash...do they?!

That's simply not true Selenite. All diabetics are cared for under the N.H.S.and their eyesight.

Glad to see that TM. Thanks for the link.
Not sure if this friend I was talking about got his facts wrong or whether treatments have changed in the last few years.
Whichever way I'm glad to read that I was mis-informed and that all diabetics receive full NHS care in the UK.
