I think this is a stupid law...for the simiple reason that ANYONE whom has children and is a smoker, should NOT be smoking in the car from the get go! NOR should they smoke in their homes !!!

I am a smoker however, I NEVER smoke in a car or rather, MY car when I have children in it! NOR do I smoke around kids in a confined area! ok , ok, I don't have any children but still, when I have my nephews OR neices, smoking isn't even a second thought to me!

I totally agree with the fines of $200.00 for those whom choose to smoke while children are in the car but then again, what kind of FRIKKEN people are they if they choose a cigarette over a child????

My question is this......how is the province going to collect this amount? What if the person does not pay? are they going to add this onto a persons plate renewal?

in closing, you gotta have a THICK SKULL to even THINK of smoking around kids...maybe it was cool when we were kids but then again, maybe our parents didn't know any better... It was the "in thing" to spark up a smoke back in the 50's and 60's..heck even the 70's....

any and all thoughts are welcomed....let's make this nice....

How do the law inforcers intend to catch the violators of this law. It seems to me that it would be easy to hide the fact, that someone is smoking in the car, when their kids are in the car.
confused

I am a non smoker. I also find it annoying, when someone smokes in the same car I am riding in too. And there doesn't have to kids in that same vehicle.

confused ..maybe the cops will have "i-saw-you-smoking-in -the=car" radars???

don't know how they will enforce that? maybe if they SEE someone they can stop them? and then, who's to say that is gonna stick in court cause you KNOW some one may just decide to take it to court, stating some b/s as it's against his freedom and blah blah blah....

oh yeah? well how about the freedom of a kid wanting to breath fresh air and not his/her nasty habit???

I dunno.........I am still stumped but I am happy they went thru with this law....regardless that I am or am not a smoker...

cheers

I agree with this law...not sure how it will be enforced or how fines etc. will be collected - however, I am sure it will be in much the same manner as other enforced laws; ie. seatbelts, DUIs, etc.
I am confused because I don't agree when people don't wear their seatbelts or helmets or what have you, and I think they are idiots if they defy the law - and therefore, they should face the consequences of breaking the law. I truly believe that only morons would drive under the influence of booze or drugs, that it endangers several lives, ....and that is why there is a law against it.
I am sure that the powers that be will figure out a way by which this can be enforced and punished in an efficient and fair manner. I think what they are trying to do is to discourage people;and often, through the proverbial wallet is the best route! JMHO angel

Can you see a law enforcement officer.... going ooooo I have to get that person for smoking in their car... and in the meantime some violent crime takes place just down the road ... doh But the trusty law enforcement office got that smoker for smoking in the car ... wow our tax dollars are going to pay for that too....... GRRRR

Any one that smokes in a car with kids, more so with the windows closed ... does not take into consideration other people. Why not work more on the gang and drug violence etc .... JMO, I feel those are things that need more done to get rid of.

Welsh mother guilty of allowing 3-year-old to smoke

Woman receives suspended sentence, child 'a habitual smoker'

LONDON — A British woman has pleaded guilty to child cruelty for allowing her three-year-old to smoke in front of her.

Prosecutor Jonathan Rees says video taken by a mobile phone showed the small child popping a cigarette into his mouth, lighting it with a lighter and taking a drag.

Rees told a court in the Welsh town of Merthyr Tydfil that the boy’s mother, 24-year-old Kelly Marie Pocock, was sitting next to him and talking on the phone at the time.

The film was shot by Pocock’s friend, Natasha Dudley, who showed the footage to social workers.

Judge John Curran said Thursday it was clear Pocock’s child was a habitual smoker and called the situation appalling.

Pocock was given a 40-week suspended sentence.

Woman faces theft charge over overdue library book

INDEPENDENCE, Iowa — An Iowa woman has been arrested because she failed to return a library book.

Thirty-nine-year-old Shelly Koontz was arrested Thursday night on a fifth-degree theft charge.

She is accused of keeping “The Freedom Writers Diary,” which she checked out from the public library in nearby Jesup in April.

Police say the book — which is about a high school teacher’s effort to inspire students to write — is valued at $13.95.

Court records show library employees tried repeatedly to contact Koontz by phone and mail and a police officer even visited her home last September.

Officials at the Buchanan County jail say Koontz was released after posting $250 bond.

KHD100:
Does anyone a women taking drugs while pregnant is more serious than smoking in a car with kids? (It's just a question)

wave Yes I do...I believe that they should be held legally accountable for all of the damage that they do to their children, born or not....criminal negligence or negligent indifference cause bodily harm? assault with a weapon? attempted murder? The list goes on and I am serious. There is no measure of the cost to the human lives affected and damaged, not to mention out social and health care system.
As we do understand and realize that the damage second hand smoke does (as opposed to our parent and grandparents generation), I do think that it should be taken seriously and as a society we should just do whatever we can to ensure the health of our future generations.
You are right K, there are so many horrible things that need to be addressed and dealt with consistently and adequately. However, there are always issues that are in fashion...and right now it is smoking, so it gets the attention and action. It is frustrating to say the least...dunno I think it requires $$$, the right group of people, the right supporters and the highest level of commitment for laws to be legislated...and that all may be a very small part of the problem. hug angel
