It stunk. It has superfluous and added characters that served no purpose except to include some of Douglas Adams' friends. The only bright spots of the movie were Bill Nighy (as Slartibartfast) and Alan Rickman (as Marvin the Robot).
The 1981 six-part TV series of H2G2 is a far better view. Go rent it, or buy it if you have to.
My mom and I walked out of the theatre not only because my mom was bored to tears of it and we had to go somewhere and lost track of the time. I know that makes no sense since my mom was bored. I rented it from the library and watched it and found it entertaining. I don't know to each his or her own.
