Assuming the responses were honest and there is no reason to believe they aren't, what are some of the reasons men on average make a higher income than women.

Here is one reason.

Women get pregnant and this interupts the continuity of their vocational career while they give birth, and sometimes for many years if they stay out of the field til their offspring is old enough for daycare or a nanny. This absence allows men to get higher up the ladder through raises and pay grade increases.

Is it wrong? I don't think so, it just is. There is another unanticipated result of this scenario. Depending on the length of the womans absence, her job may not be able to be held til her return. This may force her to seek another job and start at the bottom again.

Thanks. I've given this much thought being on the hiring side of the equation.

I'll let it run for another day. I've got a theory and I'm just testing it out.

I got out of the army and worked a bunch of different jobs. Pay was pretty good but ended up buying a truck and it was better. Jerked around with jobs that were over the highway and then, seemed to have found a niche where all is good and the pay is extreme. One truck paid off and the other only thirteen grand left on. No bills, I do the mechanical work myself under supervision of a real mech whom I bribe with beer and the odd fifty as I have no idea of what I'm doing with a wrench cause I played with dolls when I was a kid.

The rationale you put forth does not fit my situation as I started this about ten years ago. Any woman could have done the same. Of course, the downside is, that I am over two thousand miles from where I would like to be geographicly. Which seems to add credence to your theory.dunno
