And it shouldn't have to be. Not totally, anyway. I've sacrificed quite a bit for one I loved. There was a point when I said that I'd trade my life for his if I could, until someone pointed out that would leave my teenage sons without a mother. It was a valid point.
I would sacrifice my life to save one of my sons if I had to choose between them or me. I think every parent would. But would I sacrifice my life for a mate? I honestly can't answer that one. It would depend on the circumstances, and the consequences of doing so.

I agree about family and children. Nothing motivates more than that bond. I feel passionate about right and wrong, even if it isn't easily clear. There are worse things than loosing ones life, especially if it means pain for your children or family. I believe I would give my life for them if I had to choice to save them somehow. Love should help us conquer our fears and even self-preserving instincts. Mother's can be the strongest warriors, and the most amazing silent martyrs. It is unfortunate that they should ever be in that position but that is their job, to preserve the safety of their offspring and family regardless of the cost. Mother's are beautiful for many reasons and this one especially.
