I believe the death penalty isn't used enough. Why do victims and victims families have to wait so long for justice to be served these days? There was a couple years back a guy who had been on death row for killing a child in Cocoa area due to changes in the law he kept getting his sentence changed-he was on DR taken off and than back again the family had to relive the crime every time and speak against the man who murdered their child. I can't imagine the pain they went threw. I understand that there are falsely accused people getting their sentence reversed because of scientific advances but how long should people really have to wait? Is it fair for people like I mentioned-the mother said in a press conference she FORGAVE the SOB that murdered and raped her son and stuffed him in a luggage trunk in the woods-forgive this man no I say hang him by his genitals and let the wild animals have their way with him.... whats your thought

Killing the perpetrator of a murder does not bring the victim back, nor does it ease the bereavement process of the family members of the victim.

Justice, in my book, does not include becoming a killer myself even by proxy........wine

I think it is easy to type saying that they should be killed, and maybe they should be ...maybe not....I personally do not wish to be the one to pull the trigger....now I am sure that a lot will come on and say I could do that very easy...but again it is as the saying goes easier said than done ...in this case easier TYPED than done. I myself do not wish to be the one to decide someones fate and I think the one that has to should in fact be the one to carry out the deed at hand.

The Death Penalty has never served 'justice' for the victims - it is merely the States method of exacting revenge. Taking the life of the offender has never acted as a deterrent for others, and no one has the 'right' to end the life of another no matter what the circumstances are.

In today's world, the excuse of using the death penalty as a means of 'protecting society' is absolute nonsense. Criminals can are are kept in jails for periods which they will never be able to serve. If Madoff can get 150 years for Fraud, then I see nothing wrong giving the same minimum sentence for Murder. The death penalty has never eased the pain of the victim or their families - revenge never does.

Do I believe in the death penalty? I know it exists in many parts of the world, therefore I believe in its existence. Do I AGREE with the death penalty? Absolutely not!

What is the death penalty but authorized murder? A crime for a crime. Where is the justice? Who really benefits? If the death penalty works, then why is Charles Manson still alive?

As I said easy to say ...but doing is a whole other can of worms....and of course this would bring up the question as to how would YOU know that the guilty is in fact guilty....unless of course you saw with your own eyes the deed in hand...

Maybe those found guilty of a terrible crime should be given the choice:

1. Suicide

2. A genuine life sentence with zero prospect of release - ever(unless they are PROVEN not guilty).....

I believe many guilty criminals are later freed not because they are innocent, but that doubt is thrown on their sentence and they get off on a technicality....... being not proved guilty is not the same as being innocent - no Sir!

No, because I don't see any justice in making a spectacle of killing a few little nobodies while the world's worst mass murderers run governments and are never even accused or tried.

We'll all be judged one day and nobody will get away with anything.

If someone is proven to be 100% without a doubt guilty of raping/murdering someone and getting only life out of the deal they should have been taken to the death chamber which it's pretty obvious that that person would no longer be able to commit those particular crimes again. Why should we as taxpayers have to foot the bill for someone elses senseless acts.

I fully understand that taking anothers life won't bring that murdered family member back but sometimes it does bring closer hopefully to that family.

I won't go into a big long boring story of why this topic hits home for me but I know how it feels to have someone taken away from you.And you want so much for that person who committed that crime to pay for doing that crime especially when they've been proven 100% guilty of it.

just a question here....Is it cheaper to kill someone than to keep that person in prison for life?....with the cost of all the courts have to go though to put someone down ...as in court costs ,juries, lawyers ect. I heard once it acually cost more to kill someone than to place them behind bars. Now I am not sure if that is true I would suppose that would matter greatly as to the age of the offender I suppose. And someone said something about DNA proving that they are guilty....just suppose that in ten years sci. finds that the DNA that they used was not correct ....that it was all wrong ...but we killed even one person wrongly. We only THINK DNA is prefect,we could very well have it all wrong and not even know it yet.

Death is everywhere; there are flies on the windscreen. for a start. uh oh

A natural end to life used as a legal tool against some and a relief for others.

Killing someone off is not a punishment for the convicted but to the family around the person. I am against killing, that's how simple it is, but I am not a stranger to death.

The number of people proven innocent while serving maximum sentences makes me wonder if the death penalty is a step too far, as we can never compensate the family for their loss.

Relying on Scientific evidence is extreemly dangerous, since science is not perfect.

Many here may not remember the late 70's & 80's, during the IRA war in Northern Ireland. A bomb was set off in a Bar in Birmingham (England)where several people were killed. Sometime later 6 people were arrested and convicted on scientific evidence, of having set the bomb. The scientific evidence was that 'traces of glycerene' were found on the hands of the accused. Glicerien is a component of Nitro Glycerene. They were sentenced to life imrpisonment. There were two main problems with the scientific evidence which didn't come out until 14 years later - (1) the accused had only moved into the area two days before the explosion - and had never visited the Bar. (2) the Glycerene trace found on their hands was exactly the same trace anyone would have who held or played with a deck of cards.

After several years, they were completely exhonerated of any involvement in that attrocity, and compensated by the British Government for wrongful imprisonment. They're known as "The Birmingham 6" ...... and there were others who were 'caught' by faulty scientific evidence; such as: The Maguier 7 and the Guildford 4.

The point I'm making here is that if the death penalty was available in England, and was used in all of these cases 17 totally innocent people would have been executed.

People say that the death penalty can bring 'closure' for the victims families ...... where would the closure have been for those English families, when they found out that the wrong people were executed? It would have put them in a worse position, knowing that the 'killers' would never be caught and 17 innocent people died for nothing!!

The principle of 'justice' is not, an eye for an eye.

Not as simple as all that.

I say hand them over to the families of the victims and allow them to decide on the sentence . Also give them a say in whether the person lives or dies.

From my own personal viewpoint ,I say no to the death penality.

But sometimes the crimes are so vile ( all of them are,but some more so) that I would press the button myself .

SuzyJ: Some people say that only god should judge such people....its my belief that if that should be left to some higher power then we wouldn't have been born with human capabilities such as defining right and wrong, free will and personal judgement. We were born with these capabilities to use them, indeed we have a responsibility to do so. Yes I think certain people should receive the death penalty simply because some people are beyond redemption, and why should the rest of us be saddled with the responsibility of caring for these villains, or being put at risk to them? I also believe that in order for this to be practiced by any society they need a sound legal system because taking a life is a huge responsibility and should be done with the utmost seriousness.

Would I do it? Yes. I believe that if you advocate something you should be prepared to do the deed. I eat meat and I know what it is to kill and butcher an innocent animal for food. I support the use of capital punishment and the death penalty in certain circumstances and would have no qualms about carrying it out if I felt the need and standing in front of whatever god you believe in on judgement day to defend my actions.

Very well stated....heart beating

We are all going to die one day and at such time, meet our maker if we feel we have one. By enacting the death penalty, we are just helping those who are deemed unworthy to live among us meet their maker in a more timely manner.
