avecaim: I did for a while but now I can't figure out how it works on Linux. Any ideas? I keep trying
Linux? Hmmm, I'm only experienced in Mac and PC... but Linux
Looks like your browser would be the controlling factor with internet radio...since it is a web site base service. Wish I had a better idea for you. Maybe someone...that knows Linux, could help.
yeah internet here too, found one day while I was at work and been preffered ever since. Plus I like how if they play a song you're not in the mood for, you can skip to the next one, and if you have to get up, you can pause
I listen to BBC Radio 2 when at work, I use it for Teaching and to keep up with whats hapening back in the UK, plus its my daily dose of Real Spoken English

TheresMyFriend: I've gotten to where I listen to internet radio, when I'm on the net...letting it play in the background.
There are so many different stations, with many different listening pleasures.
I don't even listen to local anymore. What about you?
I listen to CDs on my stereo with a mix that I change out when I feel like it at home. In my car, I listen to a local station that I love with a good, eclectic mix. I've never listened to internet radio at all.

Well, it's probably not for everyone...but it's the only thing I listen to.
Don't even listen to the car radio.
Got tons of CD's as well...but very rarely listen to them...probably got a thousand DVD's, and 10 times that much in CD's.
But I'm on the Net so much at a time...sometimes just once a day...(all day long)

I listen to automated stations from a Russian site when I tuck into bed whilst local radio its either on or its not doesn't bother me really am very random
avecaim: I might switch over to Mac one of these days. I think Ubuntu is easiest for Linux but the product incompatibilities are a hassle.
OK...when I messed with the Linux for that short time...I just gave up, and that is when I went to Mac...since it is Linux based system.
I have had the Mac for over 8 years, and no hassle, no virus(and don't even have anti-virus software). If you enjoy the Linux, I'm sure you will find the Mac to be a great system as well.
If I have an extra PC(intel based)and wanted to put a Linux system on it...which version of Linux would you suggest?
I played around with them for a short time, until just went with Mac.
I am first and foremost a Mac man, I have had an Apple since they first came into the UK, and was, for a short time employed by them, I also ran a company selling and repairing Apple equipment.
With Linux I use Mandrake, for no other reason than I got a copy from a mag and just kind of expanded it as time went by, I use Linux on my "Main" PC which is a home brew, and have the dreaded MS Vista on my laptop, but I must qualify that, I only run this software because it is on my father’s pc and when he gets lost I can correct his mistakes by replicating his action on my laptop.

Good luck with your download.
Just to be pedantic, Macs are not Linux based, they originally used a form of Unix, when Mr Jobs returned, he instigated the restructuring of the OS to use his own NEXT operating system again Unix based, I believe that the latest OS is still Unix based but with some code for Intel which allows MS windows to run concurrently.
Well, it isn't working and I have no clue why. See I should have gone with Apple Something about synaptic errors that can't be fixed or something...argggg

Understand... so, would you think that the Ubuntu, would be a good general all around Linux system?
From what I have read, it seems to be the top popular one going. I spent 30 years repairing/building PC's...then got interested in Linux, because of all the virus havoc on the PC's that were coming into the shop(as you can see, I was in the perfect position to see the disadvantages of Windows).

See, I can't even keep the systems straight...maybe I don't need to get into more than the 2 I already have...

Dang...I was expecting that to work for you! What if you go to a web site that doesn't require the downloads of additional software.
I will try to search the net for such a site, and get back to you with info...don't despair..."it ain't over till the fat lady sings"!
avecaim: ok I barely got rhythmbox music player to work but it only has a few channels and I have to put in a url to get more, unlike the search option on realplayer. I'll keep trying. Thanks!
Okay, you need to ensure (Don't mean to teach you to suck eggs but not sure how computer aware you are) that you download the version specific for Your version of Linux, I think you need the one with DEB as the file extension IE RRRR.DEB
hope this helps, I am using a different linux to you so of course Real player loaded fine
