Just curious, how many of you really are concerned about what you eat. The foods today you buy in packages are filled with chemcials unless you read those labels and get the one that are not. Some of those chemicals are very toxic and even a few of them if you ate 1 gram over a days time would be sudden death. Others enhance asthma, others cause cancers, and other chemicals make you hungry so you buy more and eat more. Then there is the hybrid foods, which is even the fresh food sections of the store. Some have had DNA from deadly plants put in them to keep the bugs from eating them, which if you eat it and wonder why you feel ill, that is usually the cause since the plant DNA is toxic to humans too.
Just to find heirloom seeds to grow yourself is hard to find that are all original plants that have not be altered. However, we are what we eat. I just noticed I have more energy and feel much better when I eat organic foods, before I switched to all organic foods I used to be out of energy all the time and feeling sick. I used to even have wierd pains in my body and my scalp would be on fire at times, since I changed to organic 15 years ago, I have not been sick once. Not even a cold or flu. Has anyone else that switched to organic foods noticed these changes in their own life?

dude hows it going....farmer Rob had 7 stands at different farmers markets...and i remember if a shopper asked if the veggies were organic. he would say .."YEP" so asked him and he said he "DID NOT KNOW A VEGETABLE THAT WAS NOT ORGANIC"
I moved from the city 19 yrs ago pollution was making me sick. Bought an acreage surrounded by trees far from the city. Have never used chemicals on my land. My food & animals are chemical free.Grow heritage veggies & rare breeds of animals & birds. Would never go back.

I grew up overseas in the jungle where there was no such thing as chemically produced food... We also juiced alot of veggies. My dad had developed hypoglycemia, but after about 6 months of veggie juice, he never had another symptom.
Since we've been back in the US, we've always wished for simple non-processed foods like we were used to. Fortunately we were able to move to the country and the local farmers are willing to sell us their organic produce and milk, etc. We used to get sick at least once a month. Colds, malaria relapses...you name it.
I have not been sick all year--and I'm not even strict about my diet. I just keep it simple. I don't eat fast food--mostly because it sickens me now--and I mostly eat home grown/organic veggies and non processed dairy. I'm feeling better than ever!
After having lived on both coasts and having access to all kinds of wonderful roadside produce stands and good, fresh fruits and veggies, I'm stuck out here in an endless wheat field and I miss those little roadside stands! I miss fresh blueberries from Jersey the most. I've noticed that I have a lot more problems with my allergies since I've had to suppliment with vitamins, too.
Nothing but agriculture out here and I miss organic foods. What is wrong with this picture???
Is organic food healthier? Does it make an important political statement? The usual arguments boil down to three: that it benefits small farmers rather than big evil companies; that it's somehow healthier to eat; and that the cultivation method is better for the environment. Rather than accepting these emotionally satisfying benefits at face value, let's instead take a skeptical look and see what the data actually show. Let's take these three claimed benefits one at a time.
Buying organic food benefits small farmers, and represents a blow to the big food corporations. All right, let's take for granted the position that major food producers deserve to be struck with a blow. I'm sure the starving millions in Africa appreciate the sentiment.
Make no mistake, organic food is big, big business. The days when the organic produce section of the supermarket represented the product of a small local farmer are long gone. California alone produces over $600 million in organic produce, most of it coming from just five farms, who are also the same producers of most non-organic food in the state. 70 percent of all organic milk is controlled by just one major milk producer.
Five or ten years ago, when the major food producers saw that organic food was coming into vogue, what do you think they did? They smelled higher prices charged for less product, and started producing organic crops. Nearly all organic crops in the United States are either grown, distributed, or sold by exactly the same companies who produce conventional crops. They don't care which one you buy. You're not striking a blow at anyone, except at your own pocketbook.
I started eating organic foods a little bit a year and a half ago, and I've increased ever since then to the point that everything I eat is organic. Organic beef doesn't have the hormones and antibiotics given to normal cows, nor does organic milk...and that prevents a lot of cancer. My vegetables are organic and taste much better, so having a limited selection in my area doesn't bother me. My rice is brown, long-grain and organic, so it's the healthiest, and since I'm gluten-intolerant, rice is the biggest source of whole grains for me.
I'm studying to be a Doctor of Naturopathy, and the more I learn about what I eat, the more I care about what goes in my body, and the better I feel. I've also seen the dramatic effect that these changes in diet made for my best friend in her third battle with cancer. She feels better than ever, and her markers have dropped dramatically...and yes, I contribute that mostly to her diet and the herbal supplements she's taking thanks to the resources available to me.
They do an excellent Pizza here, tomatoes, fungus and olives, Hmm delicious Washed down with Grappa, a grape juice Brandy at about 50%, believe me, once you finished you don't care if the food came from Mars or the backend of a sheep, sleep comes easy as well
I agree that organic foods are probably better overall. Having been a med-tech, I also believe in the placebo effect. (if you take medicine and THINK it will make you better, it will). There's tons of proof that what goes on in the mind trickles down to everything else. So, yes, I guess if you really believe organic food will make you healthier, etc... it most likely will. I'm not discounting that it actually is better for you. Did you hear the one about the 370 pound lady who went into a fast food joint? "Give me a triple cheeseburger with extra sauce, a jumbo order of french fries, a giant toll house cookie, please. "A beverage?" ventured the clerk. "Yes," came the response. "I'll take a large diet coke". What utter nonsense.

I disagree: my health has improved; documented ailments are now gone, along with my brainfog. I have more energy. More cost for the food, less cost for doctor's visits and prescriptions. Why don't you switch to organic for a couple of months and see what happens?

I completely agree. The same thing happened with me AND I lost weight!

DreamingWoman: Wild and farm animals always choose "real" foods over GMO foods. Animals die on GMO foods.
I'm a bit muddled. You quoted the post, but made no comment. May I ask what you are calling "GMO" ? (I probably forgot the term, it's a long but legitimate story).
iamalovedrug: I completely agree. The same thing happened with me AND I lost weight!
Me too! after a really nasty separation from my ex, I'm guessing stress had something to do with it, but I switched to a nearly 100% organic diet and over the course of about 3 months, lost nearly 40 lbs!
I'm sure that losing that weight helped with my health problems, too but I've reached and maintained my goal weight for 2 years now and have never felt better. Every so often, I'll go out with friends and eat something that I know is not good for me (we all have to splurge from time to time ), and It takes me a couple of days to recover!
I choose to eat organic also because it's healthier for my son. I don't want him growing up thinking fast food is the way to go. He is very healthy and rarely sick, even being in school. Organic (along with lots of veggies and fruit) is good for the immune system!
Only certain chemicals are prohibited from being used in organics. Read the regulations sometime.
Organics are preserved with petrol-based coatings which are as much of a health hazard as the chemicals that are eliminated and harder to get out of your system than the chemicals used to preserve regular food. A relative of mine is a scientist who works in the field and he won't even buy organics for that reason.

I dont concern myself about business when my health is in question. Either do i concern myself about business when the environment or the integrity of plant DNA is in question.
