I am looking to see how people feel about a possable Government run health Care.I see how bad all other government programs are run and I am worried about putting my health care in there hands. I also don't know what they will do about all the law suits that have driven the price through the roof. Will it be like the armed services where you will not be able to sue if the doctors make a mistake? Will it be like the G I Bill where they can just change it at there will. I would be in favor of a overhaul of the current system. possably the government haveing some control over all the lawsuits or an insurance pool that would bring down the price that hospital and doctors would haft to pay thus dropping the overal cost of health care.
If it is between government and business. I rather government run health care cause business have been running healthcare through the roof and right into the ground.
We already have a govt administered health care system which just happens to work very well, it's called 'MEDICARE" DUH!
Wake up and smell the coffee. The problems with the healthcare system in this country are the insurance industry, litigation, corruption, and fraud. Add to that the problem of medical records on paper stored at multiple locations such as doctors offices, and hospitals and a broken communication network, which are not accessible to the individual. Why hasn't the medical industry joined the 21st century by computerizing medical records already?

Medicare pays crap......My personal insurance has to pick up the balance. If I had Medicare only, I'd be in the poorhouse.

My brother has had very good luck with the VA. He never used it until he retired from his job.
I haft to be honest the V A has not been that bad but it takes me three weeks to get in then they are so rushed they don't listen to what you tell them I had a med that caused some reaction she stated oooh yes I can't give you that but when I got to the pharmacy I got the same meds . By the way did you just hear the news they are not going to increase social security for at least the next three years . we can't afford to Help our senior citizens but we can promise to take care of the Medical I think not .

Oh yes! Gov controlling it it's fab! Better to have it on the States shoulders instead of in your own shoulders! It's not any other product to go raw to the free market God Damnit!

If you had to choose between medicare or nothing which would you choose? That is at the heart of the issue. To get 47 million people on a plan which may not be as perfect as what some executives have but at least it will keep them out of ER's and maybe provide them some preventive care.
My son was about to start a new very good job and he was having difficulty with a chronic caugh. He didn't want to be caughing all over the place on his first day so he went to the ER because he had no time to wait for an appt with my doctor. Take a guess what they charged him for the ER visit. FOURTEEN HUNDRED DOLLARS! I sh__ you not! It seems they hit him for all the no payers that walk in the door.
OH, one more thing, there is another thing that has driven up healthcare costs in this country. Hospitals! Where do they get the nerve to charge $1,000 a night for a goddamn bed? not to mention the other items they tack on your bill like $1.00 a pill for freakin asprin or 10 bucks for a plastic basin. It's outrageous! These charges originate with the Board of Directors of the hospital and they are all getting filthy rich on the scam and they don't even practice medicine. They are nothing more than a bunch of Bernie Madoffs.

Hi there, friend.
While I always worry when the Government takes control of anything, I have to say that our present Health Care system is seriously flawed and needs either an upgrade or overhaul. I am concerned with what the Democrats are going to come up with, they have a history of turning anything into a tyrannical system but I'd rather have THEM pass one of their bills than some Republicans who are happy with the status-quo. I think Obama does want to do the right thing, I just hope his ideas aren't going to be hijacked by some globalists who have no interests in the health of the American people.
BrunoMcMahon: Coming soon! Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the hospital! From the Government that brought you the FIVE HUNDRED DOLLAR HAMMER and DAMS ON DRY RIVERS:
IT'S....HEALTH CARE!!!!!!Be afraid, be very afraid!
Do you have anything constructive to contribute to this thread instead of fear mongering? For people who hate government with such a passion you Republicans are trying awfully hard to be included IN it.

As a victim of the American "health care system" I can tell you that the government needs to take control. Ten years ago, I had to have a heart bypass and had no insurance. The end result was that I had to go bankrupt. A few years later I had to go out on disability and was forced to use Medicaid. I had to drive 90 minutes each way in order to see the doctor because no doctor near me would accept Medicaid clients. Now I live in Ireland and get free healthcare and it is a blessing. I get treated better here than I EVER did in the states.

The point is the Government run very little efficently or economically.
Right?
If not I can introduce you to a military contractor who was told by the buyer he'd just given a 30% discount to, "No way, we pay full price, I HAVE A BUDGET THAT I HAVE TO SPEND EVERYTHING OR I LOSE MONEY NEXT YEAR."
That 30% amounted to a fair amount of money, our money that went spinning down the tubes because of doing things the Government way.
I can take you to an office 35 miles from me that has perhaps $100,000 worth of hardwood furnishings, the chairs with fine leather upholstry, all in like new condition. All bought for the price of shipping from the O'Neil Federal Building Bostom MA. Because they had a budget where everything had to be spent. How much do you suppose they spent on the new stuff? It's been five years or so since they bought it. Odds are that's gone too.
Any idea why I have no more confidence in the Government managing money well any more than I do in a lion going Vegan?
This statement about sums up anything you are trying to say:
For people who hate government with such a passion you Republicans are trying awfully hard to be included IN it.
This isn't about health care. This is just more political hatred and venom aimed at the Repubican party.
These problems have been brewing for a very, very long time. Both parties have been in and out of power over those years. Both are equally guilty in allowing them to happen.

Yep, thousands of Americans go to Canada and Mexico for surgical procedures and medication
I myself had stomach surgery in Belgium when I visited my family in '03, I had a co-pay of 700E! If I had had it here, I don't know how much I would have paid but it sure wasn't going to be $700!

i don't really understand the argument that's put forward against nationalised healthcare. why would a government be any more greedy or inept or uncaring than an insurance company? when did these multi-nationals become paragons of virtue? i must have missed that announcement

It isn't one or the other but electied officials are often apt to remember who contributed to their election in one way or annother.
The idea that "our" party is more clean than "their" party is just a fairy tale told to keep the masses squabbling among themselves while the polititians do their mischief. Sort of along the same line as giving something shiney to look at when you want to distract them.
Free health care OOOH ??????? I guess nobody pay's taxes to pay for it Nothing is free in this world. except bad advise. I guess for the illeagal aliens and the people that don't pay taxes it would be free but for the common citizen it will cost dearly . and For the rich they are talking a special tax that means that many jobs will be lost because the rich own the business's in this country and will cut people to pay for the extra tax or Leave the United states all together as many have done already and they are now doing. Don't think the rich are going to let go of anything. then again they will have legal loopholes so they don't pay taxes just like the big Bank bailout's that went to the rich and no one will even check as to where the money went . and the middle class will again bear the brunt of the burden
