Gaddafi: deal done over IRA victims

Victims of IRA terrorism were given fresh hope of compensation from the Libyan government today after Colonel Gaddafi indicated that a deal had been struck with Britain.

In a rare interview, Libya’s leader Muammar al-Gaddafi said that “an agreement or a legal agreement” had been concluded between his country and the British government — boosting hopes of official recognition for Libya’s role in arming the IRA at the height of the Troubles

.....
If Libya pays out, then why shouldn’t the British?

That's the headline from last weekends Sunday Business Post ....

Here's a few paragraph's...

As a legal precedent, it is now being considered by lawyers for some of the victims’ groups. Interestingly, relatives of the victims of those killed by UDA operative and informer Brian Nelson believe they may be in a position to launch a significant legal claim against the British government.

As was subsequently accepted at his trial, Nelson was run by British intelligence within the UDA. On their behalf, he imported a large consignment of weapons from South Africa which were eventually involved in the killing of large numbers of people, particularly in a bloody series of sectarian killings in north Belfast. Nelson’s controller gave evidence at the trial.

Already, extensive legal investigation has been undertaken by the Barron report and the McEntee inquiry, and there are few today who do not accept that these acts were sanctioned by British Intelligence. If this is the case, have not the victims the same moral claim for compensation as those now looking towards Tripoli?

It’s quite simple. If Libya is facing up internationally to its responsibilities, is it not also time that Britain does as well?

confused So, actually, Vietnam could then claim compensation from the USA ..... Germany from Britain and Visa Versa (for those old wars)....... South West Africa from South Africa ........ South Africa from Russia ...... (AK47`s & AK73`s flooded the market there)...... cant off-hand remember all the little wars around the globe ....... until we get down to stolen and smuggled private weapons and trace the original owners for compensation in hi-jackings/robberies/driveby shootings/etc....... Gosh, maybe one of MY weapons has found its way into some gooolash`s hands? (I did have my doubts when I handed it over for destruction to the police in my country after jimmying the barrel but that could have been repaired I guess....)

Gee, this could become a new pastime ..... tracing the origins of weapons used in causing mayhem?

What about the ingredients in home-made bombs? ... who supplied them...?

So now we come down to playing with money, and finding reasons to point fingers into the past..? Somewhere along the line places like Mongolia should have a claim too?dunno ... and China, Tibet, Japan for those A Bombs?

Well to be honest,in a way, I did.See what happened was he had a big dog which he loved very dearly. This dog was kept tied up in the back garden to ward off any pigeon stealers as his dad had a loft full of beautiful prize winning birds, very valuable too.

Anyway, this dog had the habit of resting on top of the roof of his kennel.Sometime during the night there was some sort of noise, poss just folks passing by.The dog leapt off the roof of his kennel and.....accidently hung himself on the nearby washing line. They found the poor dog dead the next morning.Twas just the way he told it,I laffed, not good,he punched me on the nose.He did however remain a lifelong friend because although we went different ways mid teens and didn,t see each other for nigh on forty years. He always passed on his regards via my mum who remained a neighbour throughout. Two years ago I went to see him and it was fantastic to see him again.applause
